In Other Words #2

And, just like that, it’s Sunday again. November is almost over and I can’t wrap my mind around that. I feel like it was just October! Let’s take a look back at this past week.

Last Week’s Blog Posts

Life Outside the Blogopshere

This past week was another quiet one, though I’m not one to complain as next week will most likely be crazy busy. Thanksgiving is Thursday and we are not prepared! The plan is to finish up some grocery shopping tomorrow after work. I’m sure it will be insane. I’m not a fan of large crowds but, hey, my own procrastination has led me to this point. Hopefully it’s not a complete dumpster fire at the store tomorrow.

The main thing I managed to accomplish this week was actually getting in a Dungeons & Dragons session with our group! My husband and I play with a group of folks and getting everyone’s schedules to work is like a feat of the gods. Especially since two of our group members live in New Mexico! Thankfully, we made it work this past Friday and got to enjoy some TTRPG goodness. We even managed to get through an entire session without being ambushed!

In a similar vein, I’ve started re-listening to the first Critical Role campaign on their podcast. I’ve never actually finished it and I’ve been wanting to for quite some time. I was watching old episodes on Youtube, but there’s something about listening to the podcast that makes it more enjoyable. Probably because it’s a bunch of voice actors playing D&D, so listening is quite a pleasant experience.

On the reading front, I think The Bone Ships is single-handedly trying to drag me into a reading slump. It is SO. SLOW. I’m trying to push through since it’s an ARC. I don’t typically like DNFing books, anyways, but I feel especially bad if it’s an ARC. I’m considering setting it aside yet again and picking something else up to try and push me out of this funk. But then I think about the fact that I would have to pick it back up and just…. ugh. What will most likely happen is that I will power through because I have yet to figure out how to DNF a book without feeling guilty. Hopefully it gets better…

What are your thoughts on DNFing books? Do you find it difficult to do or easy enough if you’re not enjoying the story?

Random Stuff

Song of the week:

I went down another YouTube rabbit hole, but this time I was listening to Elton John. I’ve loved Elton since I was a kid. I grew up on his music because my parents are huge fans. I came across this version of I’m Still Standing from the movie Rocketman and… I kind of like it more than the original???

Factoid of the week:

Silent reading is a recent phenomenon. Only the most skilled readers of the middle ages could read silently.

Alright, time to get back into this book. I hope y’all have a great week! If you celebrate American Thanksgiving, I hope the holidays treat you well.

And, as always, happy reading!
