Top Ten Tuesday
Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish back in June 2010. It is currently hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl and, as is stated on the blog, it was “born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.”
It’s time for the last TTT of the month. The theme for this week is a “Thankful Freebie”, which, with American Thanksgiving being this Thursday, is very topical. This is the time of year when I start reminiscing about my past year and thinking about all the things for which I am thankful. And, let me tell you, it’s a lot! I could probably ramble on for ages about it, so I’ve decided to focus on bookish things. With that being said, here is my list!
Top Ten Bookish Things I’m Thankful For
Every since I was a kid, I have loved libraries. I’m so thankful for this quiet bastions of books where I can go and hide away from the world surrounded by the things I love. Not to mention the fact that they just give me books! For free! Sure I have to give them back, but that let’s me take a chance on books that I usually wouldn’t if I had to actually spend money on them first. No worries, if I do read something that I fall in love with, I end up buying a copy for my personal library.
Because they are cute and mean that I don’t have to dog-ear my books like a MONSTER. (JK, live your lives, folks!)
3. Indie Bookstores
I’m thankful for indie bookstores because they are some of my favorite places to shop! The ones that I’ve visited in our area are all adorable and friendly and just A+. And many of them bring in authors for book talks and signings, which is amazing.
I love watching BookTube so much. Every time I do, another book invariably ends up on my TBR. Which is probably bad, but I’m still thankful for it! I love the content and the imagination and the love that is put into these videos. And BookTube brought me into the online bookish community, so I’m definitely thankful for that!
5. Reading Challenges
Reading challenges really upped my reading game this year. A lot of the books I’ve read this year were specifically for reading challenges! They help me to read outside of my comfort zone which has caused me to discover some really amazing books. And I just like to be challenged, lol.
6. Book of the Month Club
Speaking of reading outside of my comfort zone, BotM club really pushed me to do that, as well. Also, it’s like a little mini-Christmas once a month! Book of the Month chooses five new releases in various genres every month and you get to choose which one you want. It’s a hardcover book for only $15 which, yes please, I will take that! I also appreciate that they let you skip if nothing appeals to you. It’s gotten me to read some books that probably would have never been on my radar otherwise.
7. Giving/Receiving Recommendations
I love getting recommendations from friends and family and I especially love giving out recommendations! It makes me feel extra awesome if they happen to fall in love with the book I recommended to them. I’m thankful that I’m the go-to in my friend group when it comes to people looking for something new to read.
8. The Bookish Community
I’m extremely thankful for having found the bookish community! Growing up, being into books felt like a very solitary activity. I didn’t really have people to talk to about the books I loved until I got to college. So to find an entire online community filled with millions of fellow book lovers is completely amazing to me! I’m loving discovering new blogs to follow, new BookTubers to watch, and just being able to talk about books to more than just one person, lol.
9. A Good Book Hangover
Ya know that feeling after you finish a fantastic book and you’re just in limbo? Where every other book you try to pick up afterwards can’t hold your interest because you’re still stuck in the world of the other book?
Yeah… I’m super thankful for that feeling. It means I’ve found a new favorite book which is always a good thing.
10. Passing It On
I’m thankful that I get to pass my love of books onto my children. I’m thankful that my son gets super excited when we read books at night. I’m thankful that my daughter reads almost as much as I do. And I’m thankful that neither one of them looks on reading as a chore. I hope they both keep that love of reading forever and pass it down to their children, as well.
Alright, so those are my top ten bookish things that I’m thankful for. Ya girl has a killer headache, so I’m going to go drink a gallon of water and lay down. I hope your Tuesday has treated you well!
And, as always, happy reading!
