This Week’s Question
I’m definitely behind on this week’s BBH, but this week’s question was too interesting to pass up! I have honestly never heard of the concept of bibliotherapy, so I looked into it. The thought of using books to help deal with or work through psychological issues seems like it would be a brilliant idea. Well, as long as the person going into the therapy actually enjoyed reading, of course!
I do wonder how the books are chosen. Are they books that look at whatever mental health issue is affecting the person seeking therapy? Are they books to help soothe mental health symptoms? I assume the reading list is tailored to the person, so they can avoid triggers if they wish. It definitely seems like a type of therapy I would enjoy!
As for “useful”, if it helps someone, then of course it’s useful! As long as it doesn’t cause further harm and the person is willing to give a try, I say go for it.
