#5OnMyTBR – Past Hyped Books

#5OnMyTBR is a bookish meme hosted by E. @ Local Bee Hunter’s Nook where you chose five books from your to-be-read pile that fit that week’s theme. If you’d like more info, head over to the announcement post!

Hello, readers!

It’s Monday once again, which means it’s time for another #5OnMyTBR. The theme this week is one that asks you to look back a few years. This week, the highlight is on hyped books from the past. I’ll have no issue finding books for this one because I always want to read a ridiculous amount of books each year and there’s no way I’m going to get to them all! I have quite a few hyped books that I was excited to read and just… never did 😅 That said, let’s get into it!

#1. Life of Pi by Yann Martel (Pub year: 2006)

This book has been on my TBR for ages. I remember when everyone was talking about it and the concept always intrigued me. All the talk about the book is what really made me pick it up. I mean, it even got a movie! I will eventually read it though I will admit that my desire to has waned a bit. This is what happens when I let books sit on my TBR too long!

#2. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak (Pub year: 2006)

Another one that’s been on my TBR for ages but, unlike the last book, my interest in this one has only grown! A lot of people love this book and have been raving about it since it was published. I’ve heard so many great things about this book and do want to pick it up sooner than later. I feel as though it’s going to destroy me, but I’m okay with this.

#3. Legend by Marie Lu (Pub year: 2011)

I remember when everyone was reading/talking about this book. It was a Thing for quite some time and that’s how it landed on my TBR. And, yet, I still haven’t read it! Actually, I just read my first Marie Lu book this year and it has literally nothing to do with this series, lol. I did love The Kingdom of Back, though, which put this series right back on my radar. Hopefully I can get to it soon.

#4. Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard (Pub year: 2015)

Yet another book where I jumped on the hype train and just… never got off? I was excited to read this book when it first came out and placed it on my TBR forever ago. And then I just never read the book, lol. I do actually own this book, as well, but it just sits on the shelf… silently judging me. I’ve heard mixed reviews on this series, but I’m still eager to read this one.

#5. A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas (Pub year: 2015)

😬😬😬

Soooooo, I don’t know if this strictly counts as a “past” hyped book because this book/series is still kind of everywhere. It was initially published in 2015, though, so I think it counts! It’s been on my radar since it was published and I do think it sounds interesting. But I’ve also heard a lot about the plot/writing that is less than favorable. Still, I like to judge books on my own, so I’m sure I’ll read at least this book in the series… eventually.

What are some hyped books from the past that you still want to read? Did you do your own #5OnMyTBR? Let me know in the comments!

And, as always, happy reading!
