#5OnMyTBR – Graphic Novels

I’ve definitely mentioned this graphic novel on the blog before. I’ve wanted to read it since seeing the movie and discovering that it existed! I had no idea it was a thing before the movie. I also enjoy the story and the art looks like something that will appeal to my tastes. I’m not really sure what’s prevented me from picking this up before now. Besides my massive TBR of books I can’t possibly get through before I die, lol. Perhaps I’ll try and make it more of a priority this year. I do want to delve into the graphic novel genre more!

I will fully admit that I saw pictures of this on someone’s Booktube and immediately wanted to read it just because I liked the art! It’s just so cute and I love the blue tones. That aside, I’ve also heard great things about the story told in the novel. There’s a cute romance and the backdrop is a bakery! This is just built for me to love it. It looks summery, too, which is always a vibe I enjoy. Hopefully I’ll be getting to this one sooner than later.

After reading Nimona, this author’s award-winning graphic novel, I knew I would read anything else by Noelle Stevenson. I absolutely love her art style and just want more of it! I was also intrigued by this one because it’s actually a graphic memoir. It makes total sense that a graphic novelist would write a graphic memoir, doesn’t it? I think the idea of telling her story alongside her art is captivating. I actually own this one and I can’t wait to read it!

Staying in the graphic memoir lane, this is one that I didn’t even know was going to be published until I saw it in Barnes & Nobel. I loved Allie Brosh’s first graphic memoir, Hyperbole and a Half. I used to waste hours on her website and, as soon as I knew she was publishing a book, I had to have it! That book was great for a lot of reasons, but I think my favorite was her honest and open discussion of her depression. I’ve never been depressed, but I’ve had many friends that have been afflicted. I know it’s different for everyone, but I appreciated getting to know even a little bit more. Also, she’s freakin’ hilarious. It’s a weird juxtaposition, but it works!

Of all the graphic novels on my TBR, I think this is the one I’m looking forward to the most. I’ve read most of Heartstopper on Tapas, but the contents of this volume weren’t available when I was reading it. Besides, after falling head over heels for the story of Charlie and Nick, I figured it was time to invest in the printed version! Much less scrolling, lol. I haven’t bought it, yet, as I really want to get all three volumes instead of just this one and I’m kind of, sort of one a book buying ban. Again 😬 That being said, I can’t wait to own all of them and have this incredibly sweet series (that still takes a look at some hard-hitting topics) on my bookshelf.
