OMG! That Song Book Tag

Hello, reader!

We’re doing some more tag catch-up on the blog today and this one I’m super excited to do! I love music, I love singing, and, of course, I love books. So, when the wonderful Leah @ Leah’s Books tagged me in the OMG! That Song Book Tag, you know I had to do it! This is a tag where you have to answer with both a song and a book. How could I not want to do it? It took me ages (😅), but now it’s time to share my answers. Thank you, Leah, for the tag! And shoutout to  Katie @ Katesbookdate, who created this tag!

MY JAM:

A song you have to listen to no matter how many times you’ve heard it before
and
A book you’ll never get sick of

End of the Road by Boyz II Men
When I say this song was an integral part of my formative years! I was a huge Boyz II Men fan and I played this album on repeat. My parents probably hated this song 😂 Excuse for a moment while I croon and reminisce.

Raybearer by Jordan Ifueko
You know a book is good when I, someone who rarely re-reads books, picks it up twice in one year. This was my favorite book of 2020 and, though the love is new, I don’t see it going away anytime soon! Now I just need to get my mitts on the sequel, Redemptor *grabby hands*

THROWBACK:

A song that reminds you of the cringiest time in your life
and
A book you read that you wouldn’t like if you were to read it now

Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) by Green Day
This was my high school graduating class’s song. High school, though not terrible, was definitely the cringiest time of my life 😅 And this song definitely reminds me of that! Also, how unoriginal were we, right?

Guilty Pleasures by Laurell K. Hamilton
Yeeeaaahhh… paranormal romance, I have discovered, is not my jam and I single-handedly blame the Anita Blake series for that. How I managed to make it all the way to book 12 is beyond me, but I definitely don’t think I’d even be able to get through book 1 now. Just… no thank you.

REPLAY:

A recent song that you have on repeat
and
A recent favorite book

Levitating by Dua Lipa ft. DaBaby
I cannot dance. But I love songs that I could dance to if I had any rhythm whatsoever. So this one has been playing a lot lately! I may or may not be dancing in my chair as I type this 😂

Amari and the Night Brothers by B.B. Alston
This book was absolutely magical and I’m so glad I got to read it last year as part of it’s blog tour! It’s an exciting new middle grade series featuring a smart and powerful Black girl lead. I wish I had had books like this when I was a kid!

GETS ME:

A song that is literally me
and
A book that is me in book form

Soulmate by Lizzo
It took me a long time to learn how to love myself but this song perfectly encapsulates my current mindset! I don’t know if it’s literally me, but it’s pretty close.

Good Omens by Terry Pratchett & Neil Gaiman
I’m a bit weird and a certain set of people find me funny and, if that doesn’t describe this book, I don’t know what does! This is also one of my favorite Pratchett and Gaiman books ever. They were wonderful writing partners!

WUT:

A weird song that you liked anyway
and
A unique book that stuck out to you for some reason

Think About Things by Daði Freyr (Daði & Gagnamagnið)
Okay, the song itself isn’t that weird, but the video 😂 I found this song through TikTok, tracked down the video, and have loved it ever since. Plus, it’s fun to blast in the car.

Tuesday Mooney Talks to Ghosts by Kate Racculia
This book originally stuck out to me because it said it was for fans of The Westing Game. Which we’ll be talking about later in this post. I ended up loving this weird, dark tale and I’m so glad it found it’s way onto my TBR.

LET’S GO:

Pick your best pump up song
and
A book that inspires you

More (RedOne Jimmy Joker Remix) by Usher
Back when I used to run because the military made me, this was a go-to song to get me through it. The beat, the hype, everything just gets my heart pumping! This is another one that makes me wanna dance, too.

The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo
I, somehow, just discovered Elizabeth Acevedo last year and, if there is one word I could give to her book The Poet X, it would definitely be “inspiring”! It’s such a beautiful book and doubly so in audio form. Not only is it beautiful, though, it has an important lesson to impart to young women finding themselves. It’s incredible!

CHILL:

Your best relaxing song
and
A book you’d curl up with on a rainy day

Sunflower by Post Malone, Swan Lee
This song just feels like a chill, Spring day to me. Also, it was featured in the best Spiderman movie ever made. I don’t make the rules, that’s just how it is.

The Wife Upstairs by Rachel Hawkins
You know what I like to read about when it’s rainy and grey outside? Murder. So thrillers are always my go-to for a rainy day read! One I’m eager to pick up is The Wife Upstairs because not only is it a thriller, but it’s a Jane Eyre retelling.

ADDICTING:

A guilty pleasure song
and
A light, trashy read you can’t help but love

ME! by Taylor Swift ft. Brendon Urie
I don’t really agree with the term “guilty pleasure”. I don’t in the least feel guilty about liking the things I like! But I picked something that I feel like people would consider a guilty pleasure. And now it’s stuck in my head 😂

Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin
Along the same lines as the term “guilty pleasure”, I really don’t like the term “trashy”. What one person considers trashy, another will think is the pinnacle of art. I take it to mean something light and easy to read in this context, though, and this book definitely fits the bill! It was a quick read and I had a good time.

NOSTALGIA:

A throwback song you look back on fondly
and
A book you read and loved when you were young

Everybody (Backstreet’s Back) by Backstreet Boys
Look, I grew up in the 90s. I was firmly Team BSB and this song was my JAM! So I will listen to it, cranked all the way up, every time I hear it 😂 I never understood why they said “Backstreet’s back”, though, because this was literally on their first album…

The Westing Game by Ellen Raskins
This was one of my favorite books when I was a kid and I recently re-read it. I found out I enjoyed it as much as I did the first few times I read it! This is a book that I could come back to again and again and never get sick of it 💖

That was so much fun! It also took forever as I listened to every song (some multiple times) as I was writing and got distracted with singing, lol. Now, for tags:

  1. What a really fun tag!!! Love it. I totally agree.. trashy is such a harsh word because it means different things to different people. Just like .. one persons trash is another’s treasure.. type of thing. Same with books! 🙂

  2. I know when you wrote “You!,” you knew I was going to read this so you really tied my hands and I’m going to do it (heh…lol). I love tags that combine music and books! I’m already planning what I want to do. Thanks for sharing! I enjoyed the pairings. “Think About Things” is so catchy! OMG… I can’t stop listening to it.
