#5OnMyTBR – Retelling

#5OnMyTBR is a bookish meme hosted by E. @ Local Bee Hunter’s Nook where you chose five books from your to-be-read pile that fit that week’s theme. If you’d like more info, head over to the announcement post!

Hello, reader!

Welcome to March! I do love when a month begins on a Monday. I don’t know why, it just feels ✨right✨. Today, I’m doing another 5 On My TBR because there was no way I was skipping this week’s theme. Why? Because we’ll be discussing five retellings on my to be read pile! I love retellings! It’s probably my second favorite trope after books about books. That means that I have tons to choose from, lol. After shifting through my TBR, though, I’ve picked out the five that I’m the most eager to read.

#1. The Wrath & the Dawn by Renée Ahdieh

This is a retelling of One Thousand and One Nights that I’ve been eager to read for quite some time. I’ve read one book from this author before that I really loved and I love the concept of this! A woman that is seeking revenge on a prince and keeps in his good graces by telling him stories every night. It sounds like it’s going to be an intense time and I can’t wait!

#2. Scavenge the Stars by Tara Sim

I’ve recently discovered that The Count of Monte Cristo is, perhaps, my favorite classic that I’ve ever read. So, when you pitch me a Monte Cristo retelling that stars a woman and is sapphic, you know I’m going to want to read it! This book sounds incredible! I know the sequel is set to come out this year, as well, so I now I can pick it up without having to worry about waiting too long for the conclusion. Give me all the revenge plots, yas!

#3. These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong

I will admit right now that Romeo and Juliet is probably my least favorite Shakespeare play. And I’ve read a lot of Shakespeare. But when I heard about this retelling that is set in 1926 Shanghai and our Romeo and Juliet kind of want to stab each other, it immediately went onto my TBR! I’ve heard nothing but great things about this debut and I can’t wait to finally pick it up.

#4. So Many Beginnings: A Little Women Remix by Bethany C. Morrow

Little Women was one of my favorite books when I was younger. I don’t even remember why I picked it up, but I remember instantly connecting with it. So I can only imagine how much I might connect to a Little Women retelling that features Black girls! I added this to my TBR as soon as I knew it was going to be a thing. Now it has this gorgeous cover which makes me even more excited to read it when it comes out in September.

#5. Lost in the Never Woods by Aiden Thomas

I’ve never been a huge fan of Peter Pan, but I have always been interested in Peter Pan retellings. I blame the movie Hook 😂 Even though I’ve been interested in reading a retelling, I have yet to actually pick one up. Then Aiden Thomas announced that this book was coming out this year and I knew I was gonna read it! I’m even more intrigued because I just finished Thomas’ first book, Cemetery Boys, and absolutely loved it. I’m so eager to get this beautiful book on my shelves.

What are some retellings on your TBR that you can’t wait to read? Have you read any of the books on mine? Let me know in the comments!

And, as always, happy reading!
