The Last Ten Books Book Tag

Hello, reader!

It’s time for another book tag and this one looks like a lot of fun! I’ll be doing the Last Ten Books book tag, which just asks ten questions about some of the last books you picked up. I was tagged by the awesome Danni @ _ForBooksSake what feels like ages ago and I’m just now getting around to it πŸ˜… Danni runs a fabulous bookish blog (where she just surpassed posting every day for the last year!) and she’s also an incredible artist. You should definitely check out her blog when you get the chance. I’m not 100% sure who originated this tag. If you know, please let me know so I can properly credit them.

And now, the questions!

The Questions:

The Last Book I Gave Up On

Heh… please don’t come at me for this one. But it’s definitely Witches Steeped in Gold by Ciannon Smart.

Look, I haven’t given up on this book, necessarily. But of the books I’m currently reading, this is the one I would reach for last. I don’t think it’s the book’s fault, though. It has a bit of a slow start and I started it during my weird June reading mood, so I just couldn’t get into it. I’ve heard it gets more exciting as you go, so I do plan on finishing eventually. It’s just not on the top of my priority list right now.

So I guess I kind of cheated, but that’s all I got!

The Last Book I Reread

Raybearer by Jordan Ifueko! I recently re-read this for two reasons:

  1. I have the audiobook and hadn’t listened to it yet.
  2. I wanted to re-read it before I start the e-ARC for the sequel!

I loved it just as much as I did the other two times I read it. Also, the audiobook was incredible! Makes me want to pre-order the audiobook for Redemptor…. like I need another copy of that book, lol. I really don’t.

…Or do I?

The Last Book I Bought

I just bought a bunch of books because my work gave me an $100 Amazon gift card and I went wild, lol. One of the many books I got was The Taking of Jake Livingston by Ryan Douglass! I’m so excited to read this creepy sounding YA horror! Which may or may not have influenced my team choice for the Trope-ical Readathon, even though you can read any of the team books πŸ˜… I’m just loathe to move away from Team Mystery/Horror/Thriller!

Anyways, this book sounds incredible and I’m excited to read it next month!

The Last Book I Said I Read But Didn’t

Don’t tell my high school English teacher, but Great Expectations by Charles Dickens 😬 I watched the movie so that I could know enough to pass the test, lol. I absolutely hated this book, y’all. I just couldn’t force myself to keep gong, especially with my shitty teenaged attention span. I have wondered if I would enjoy this more now as an adult… but I’m a little scared to try. It could either be a The Count of Monte Cristo moment (loved it!) or a The Scarlet Letter moment (hated it so much…).

Last Book I Wrote in the Margins of

I don’t usually write in books. In fact, it makes me cringe to even think of it! That being said, there are some books that just feel like they need to be written in and one of those books is House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski. I found myself scribbling notes and highlighting things that were referenced later or were just interesting. It helped to keep me from losing track of what the hell was going on, lol. Though, don’t get it twisted, I was still massively confused in some bits, but not as bad as I would have been! This book was so weird, y’all…

Last Book That I Had Signed

This question gave me pause. I receive a lot of signed books because I have an OwlCrate and an Illumicrate subscription. But the last book I actually went somewhere to have signed, before the pandemic, was The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern. I was lucky enough to be able to chat with the author and I even got pictures! It was a great event and thinking about it now makes me a little sad, heh. But I still have my beautiful, signed copy of one of my favorite books from one of my favorite authors, so there’s that!

Last Book I Lost

I “lost” Wuthering Heights by Emily BrontΓ« after I finished that trash fire… I honestly don’t remember where I left it, but I definitely took it out of the house one day and came home without it. And I was not at all mad about it, lol.

Last Book I Had To Replace

Kind of glad I waited to do this tag, because I just got all the books in The Enchanted Forest Chronicles by Patricia C. Wrede. I used to own this books when I was a kid and I absolutely adored them. I’ve been wanting to replace my copies for a long time because they got lost in a move and I was big sad. Now I own them again and I think that means it’s time for a re-read! I can’t wait to dive back into this world and relive my childhood a little.

Last Book I Argued Over

Huh… I don’t think I’ve ever argued over a book, if I’m being honest. I’ve disagreed with someone’s take on a book, but everyone experiences the books they read differently, so I don’t argue about it. Well… I would argue if someone was being sexist/racist/homophobic/etc. but otherwise, I’m not trying to get my blood pressure up over a difference of opinion.

Last Book You Pre-Ordered

I have a lot of books that I’m exciting for coming out in the latter half of 2021, so many that pre-ordering all of them is not financially feasible πŸ˜… But one that I absolutely had to nab was Little Thieves by Margaret Owen. I’ve loved both of the books I’ve read by Owen and this one sounds like it would be right up my alley! It promises dark, fairy tale vibes and I am here. for. it. Also, there have been hints of some pre-order swag, soooo…. I kind of had to, right? Right *nod*

  1. Thanks for the tag, Kerri. It’s the first time I came across this tag and I love it. I Will post this one very soon. Also, LOL to WUthering Heights. Can’t blame you for “losing” it. I didn’t like that one too. πŸ™‚

  2. Thanks for the tag, Kerri! πŸ˜ƒ Y’know, I’ve seen quite a few people say the same thing as you about Witches Steeped in Gold… I hope that it picks up soon if you continue to give it a go! I’ve also heard pretty much everyone say the same thing about House of Leaves and I am SO curious about it! πŸ˜‚

    • You’re welcome, Dini! Yeah, I was buddy reading it and quite a few of us set it to the side for now. I was told it picks up in the second half, though! House of Leaves is an *experience* lol.
