It’s time for a new round of Down the TBR Hole! This is where I go through my Goodreads ‘Want to Read’ shelf and do a bit of cleaning up. If you want to see the full description of what this post is all about, check out my first round HERE.
Hello, reader!
It’s time for another round of Down the TBR Hole! I ended last week at a total of 660 books and, somehow, will be starting this round at… 658 books 🤔 I know one of the missing books is because I started reading A Deadly Education, but I have no idea where the other one disappeared, lol. Still, I’m already starting out lower than last week, so this round is off to a good start!
That being said, let’s get to round eleven!
All Is Not Forgotten by Wendy Walker
We’re entering thriller territory! Which, though it is the perfect season for some thriller reads, I’m not sure I’ll be keeping this one on the TBR. The premise just isn’t my jam. A girl who has been sexually assaulted is given a drug so that she’ll forget everything. Like… what? No thank you.
Verdict: Remove
Hospital Hill by Katherine Anderson
This thriller, however, definitely has me intrigued! It’s a historical fiction and mystery all rolled up into one. A nurse at an asylum who is weeks away from retirement starts to believe that some of the female patients are being murdered. It sounds like it would be dark with lots of twists. I’m certainly still interested!
Verdict: Keep
Girl in the Red Hood by Brittany Fichter
Though this isn’t a thriller, we’re sticking with the darker vibes. It’s a fairytale retelling of Little Red Riding Hood that seems like it would have a touch of the creepy. Though it sounds interesting, I’ve just learned that it’s the fourth book in a series! So, perhaps if I read the other books, this one will find it’s way back on the list, but… for now…
Verdict: Remove
All In by Simona Ahrnstedt
I’m gonna be honest, after reading the synopsis, I have no idea how this book ended up on my Want to Read shelf. It’s a contemporary romance, which are two genres I don’t typically grab. Though I am trying to be better about it! But it won’t be with this book because that synopsis bored me to tears.
Verdict: Remove
The Fire Sermon by Francesca Haig
Hmm. A YA dystopian from the early 2010s. That features a world after nuclear apocalypse where everyone is born in pairs and the “deformed” twins are oppressed by the “normal” ones. Bet $100 there’ll be a random, insta-lovey romance, too.
I’ll pass.
Verdict: Remove
A Viper in the Forest by Mandy Webster
This one is a Robin Hood retelling that focuses on young Maid Marian. It sounds like it could be interesting and it has some pretty great reviews! It’s also the beginning of a series, so that makes me hesitate… I have so many series going right now. In the end, I do love the tale of Robin Hood, so I’m here for a retelling!
Verdict: Keep
Wishing Day by Lauren Myracle
Well, this book sounds absolutely whimsical! All young women in this world get three wishes after they turn thirteen and we follow our main character, Natasha, as she makes her wishes. It seems like it would be filled with magic and fun. I do love a middle grade that gives me strong whimsical vibes, so this definitely gets to stay.
Verdict: Keep
Theft of Swords by Michael J. Sullivan
Looooook, this book has been on my Want to Read for ages and I am going to read it. One day. After I finish some of these other fantasy series I’m reading. I mean, it features two rogues who need to unravel an ancient mystery but first have to deal with the pesky matter of being accused of murdering the king. Yes, please!
Verdict: Keep
Vicious by V.E. Schwab
Come on.
We all know this book is staying 😂 I love Schwab’s writing and I’ve been wanting to read this for awhile now! I also own it, so there’s a motive to allow it to stay.
Verdict: Keep
The Queen’s Gambit by Beth Brower
Why do I have so many first books in a series on my TBR? What am I doing to myself 😭 Still, this sounds intriguing. A young queen must decide to give up her kingdom or fight the people invading her land. She also has to decide whether to trust a soldier who has defected from that same country. I’m definitely interested!
Verdict: Keep
And now for the numbers!
Starting total: 658
Removed: 4
End total: 654
Not bad, not bad. This particular round made me realize that I need to start finishing some of the series I’m reading so I can get on reading all the ones on my TBR 😂 Still, I’m happy with what I kept and removed this round. Let the cleaning up continue!
Until next round, happy reading 💖
