Current Reads

• The Book of Uriel by Elyse Hoffman: I’m reading this book for a tour hosted by The Write Reads. It’s a historical fantasy set in Nazi occupied Poland. I can say that it doesn’t shy away from the brutality of WWII, that’s for sure. It’s dark and frightening, but I’m really enjoying what I’ve read of the story. It’s a quick read and the plot is interesting. I’m also loving all the references to Jewish culture. The writing can be a bit repetitive, but, so far, I’m having a good time.
• Witches Steeped in Gold by Ciannon Smart: I have an embarrassing amount of books that I’m in the middle of reading, so I’ve made a decision that I need to get through them before starting anything new. Not including blog tour books, of course! This book is the oldest one I’ve started and had finished, which makes me sad, honestly. I was so hyped for this book and it’s just… so… slow! I’ve heard it gets better in the second half, so I’m gonna push through and see.

Recently Finished

• Lord Edgware Dies by Agatha Christie: Yet another Poirot book under my belt! Though I still enjoyed this book (how can I not with Hastings as our narrator!), I have to say that I was bored through most of this. I didn’t really care about the mystery, the principle players were meh, and Poirot felt a little off to me. I also managed to guess a few of the twists, which usually doesn’t happen. Maybe it’s because I’ve read so much Christie at this point, lol. Still didn’t figure out whodunit, though. It was a decent mystery, but I just didn’t enjoy it as much as her previous Poirot stories.
• The Light at the Bottom of the World by London Shah: This book was a surprised! It has floated in the periphery for a long time, but it never made it to a concrete TBR. Then, I signed up for a blog tour for the second book in this series and, suddenly, this was at the very top. And it kind of blew me away! I listened to the audiobook on Scribd and it was absolutely fantastic. I loved the world, I loved the writing, and Leyla (our main character) is just the best. She makes questionable decisions, but is the best! I’m so excited to be able to jump right into the sequel.

What’s Next

• Little Thieves by Margaret Owen: This is one of my most anticipated books of the year and I’m reading it for a blog tour. So of course I’ll be picking it up next! This book sounds so dark and atmospheric and like the perfect fairytale retelling for this time of year. It’s a loose retelling of The Goose Girl and I’ve heard nothing but incredible things about it. I love Margaret Owens writing and I’ve been promised that our main character is an absolute gremlin. I’m excited to dive into this one!
• Journey to the Heart of the Abyss by London Shah: And here we have the sequel to The Light at the Bottom of the World! After finishing the first book, I can’t wait to dive into this one. It was such a fast-paced, intriguing read and it ended on such a cliffhanger! This is also a blog tour read for TBR and Beyond Tours, so I gotta get to it sooner rather than later. I’m looking forward to spending more time in this world.
