Book Blogger Hop: Nov 19 – 25

The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Crazy-For-Books and is currently being hosted by Coffee Addicted Writer. Every Friday, a new question is posted for book bloggers to answer in the coming week. The purpose of the hop is connection and community. You can discover new blogs to follow, new books to read, and you may end up with some new followers, as well!

Do you use Goodreads as the main website to keep track of what you have read? If not, please share what you use.

Ahh, yes, the question of to Goodreads or not to Goodreads.

Goodreads is definitely still my go-to website/app for book tracking at the moment. Not because it’s an incredible site. I don’t think it has updated since it’s inception. It’s ugly as hell. You can’t even do half star ratings! Buuuut… I’m so comfortable there. I’ve been using Goodreads since 2011 and I’m so used to how it functions. And trying to transfer all my activity over to a new app feels so freakin’ daunting.

That being said, I have been dipping my toe into a couple of different apps, trying to see if there’s something I would like more. The first, and probably second most popular after Goodreads, is Storygraph. It’s been getting a lot of traction in the bookish community since it offers some things that Goodreads does not. Like half star ratings! Yeah, I’m harping on that 😂 It seems like a great app, with much of the same functionality of Goodreads. I particularly enjoy the way they handle reading challenges. There are so many interesting ones!

Another, newer app, that I don’t think is available to the public just yet, is Literal. Like Storygraph, it allows for my precious half star ratings. It also has an import function (which I forgot to mention Storygraph has, as well!) that makes transferring from Goodreads pretty simple. I have to be honest and say I haven’t really played around with it since signing up, so I’m sure I’m missing a lot of features! Perhaps I’ll explore more in 2022.

Until then, it’s all Goodreads for me.
