Hello, reader!
It’s the start of American Thanksgiving week and time for another 5 On My TBR! This week’s theme is new to you authors and there are plenty books that fit this category on my Want to Read shelf. I’ve managed to pick five that I’m eager to read sooner rather than later. Though, with how slow I’ve been reading this month, it might be later 😅
Be that as it may, let’s see what I’ve picked for my list!
#1. Dear Martin by Nic Stone
I’ve wanted to read a Nic Stone book for quite some time. Where better to start than the book that first brought her name to my attention? This is a short book but I feel like it’s gonna pack a punch. And there’s a sequel out there for me to snag if I love this one! Fingers crossed that I do.
#2. The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart
This middle grade novel has been on my TBR for ages! It sounds so whimsical, which is what I love to find in my middle grade reads. I’m also being promised “mind-bending tests” which absolutely piques my interest. I can’t wait to get to this one!
#3. If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio
A murder mystery that centers heavily around Shakespeare? Yes, please! I honestly have no idea why it’s taken me so long to pick this one up. I’ve heard nothing but great things about it and it sounds like it would absolutely be my cup of tea. I’m such a slacker 😂
#4. The Strange Case of the Alchemist’s Daughter by Theodora Goss
Here’s another book that I’m quite honestly shocked I haven’t read yet. It features the children of famous classic villains like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde! I haven’t heard many people talk about this one. The ones that do, though, tend to gush. I feel like I’ll probably be gushing right along with them.
#5. House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas
Yes, that’s right. I have yet to read any Sarah J. Maas. And it’s not that I’m not curious. She’s one of the biggest authors out there! But I have approximately zero interest in reading the ACOTAR series. So I figured I’d give her newest series a try! Maybe if I like it, it will make me want to read her other stuff.

You’re starting your Maas journey with one heckuva chonkster 😂 I need to read that book too but gah, the chonky-ness is defo intimidating! I also want to read If We Were Villains—I keep hearing amazing things about it. I hope you enjoy all these books 🙂

Personally, I think this door stopper of a book by Sarah J Maas is her best stuff. She has a particular style, and it’s like all of the good bits from her other two series’ have been squished into this one. A new to me author in my TBR is R. F. Kuang, I’m about to start The Poppy War as I’ve heard great things!
