Down the TBR Hole #20

It’s time for a new round of Down the TBR Hole! This is where I go through my Goodreads ‘Want to Read’ shelf and do a bit of cleaning up. If you want to see the full description of what this post is all about, check out my first round HERE.

Hello, reader!

We’re inching ever closer to Christmas and ya girl is feeling pretty good about it. Why? Because I actually finished Christmas shopping before the week before Christmas Eve 😂 I’m on the ball this year! Now to get back on the ball with blogging. I may have the presents purchased but I’m still feeling s t r e s s e d. And that has made me slow down on my blogging. So, in an effort to get my steam back, I figured it would be a good day for another Down the TBR Hole!

Let’s see… last round, I ended up with 652 books on my Want to Read shelf. I’m currently sitting at 656 books which isn’t bad! It may be what I started with last round, but let’s not talk about that. Alright, let’s get into it!

The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkowski

Look. I have SO. MANY. fantasy series on my TBR. Some I’ve started, some I want to start, and some I added because they were popular at the time. This book/series falls into that last category. Does it sound interesting? Kinda? But not enough for me to keep it around.

Verdict: Remove

Bright Smoke, Cold Fire by Rosamund Hodge

Hahaha, I don’t even remember adding this book. And, after reading the synopsis and glancing at a few reviews, I’m not inclined to keep it around. Again… I already have so many fantasy series on my TBR. Why keep one around I’m not interested in?

Verdict: Remove

Uncle Montague’s Tales of Terror by Chris Priestley

Here’s another one I have no memory of adding, lol. This is a book filled with horrific short stories which sounds delightful! It may not be spooky season anymore, but this one is definitely sticking around.

Verdict: Keep

Gardens of the Moon by Steven Erikson

I’ve been interested in reading Steven Erikson’s book for awhile now. This seems like the place to start, from what I can tell. Is it yet another fantasy series? Yes. But it sounds intriguing! It’s not exactly a top priority, but I’m interested enough to keep it around.

Verdict: Keep

The Traitor Baru Cormorant by Seth Dickinson

I have a problem, y’all… Here we have yet another first book in a fantasy series. Hear me out, though. It’s got political intrigue! And a sapphic main character! And… well… honestly, those were my main takeaways from the synopsis and that’s enough for me.

Verdict: Keep

The One Man by Andrew Gross

I honestly don’t know how this book managed to get on my TBR. It’s a historical fiction set in WWII which isn’t really my thing. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve read and enjoyed quite a few historical fictions set in this time period. But I feel like that’s all I’ve read. I’m looking to branch out when it comes to this genre.

Verdict: Remove

The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan

As much as I loved the original Percy Jackson series, you would think I would’ve continued on by now. And you would be wrong! Because I’m a slacker 😂 I do want to read these books, though, so of course the first book in the Heroes of Olympus series gets to stay.

Verdict: Keep

Tales of the Peculiar by Ransom Riggs

I really loved the Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children series, which is how this book ended up on my TBR. The fact that the series has now expanded beyond the original four books leaves me with mixed feelings. I feel like I should read it because I loved the first books so much. Yet, at the same time, I have zero interest in continuing. This book still intrigues me, though.

Verdict: Keep

The Dinner by Herman Koch

This book has an average rating of 3.25 but damn if I’m not intrigued by the premise! It focuses around two families having dinner, which sounds dull, but they are having this dinner to discuss their sons. Who have been captured on camera in the midst of a terrible crime. This book follows the conversation as it dissolves into chaos. It sounds weird… I definitely want to read it!

Verdict: Keep

The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin

2022 is going to be the year I finally read this series. I’m claiming it right now. This has been on my TBR for too long and I’ve heard nothing but rave reviews! Time to stop skipping it for the new and shiny.

Verdict: Keep

And now for the numbers!

Starting total: 656
Removed: 3
End total: 653

Until next round, happy reading!
