Sunshine Blogger Award

Hello, reader!

Today on the blog, we’re gonna get into my first tag/award of the year. Which I really should have done last year, but I am notoriously slow at completing tags πŸ˜… I love being thought of for these and I always appreciate a tag or nomination! It just might take me awhile to get around to actually writing my post, heh.

That being said, I was nominated for The Sunshine Blogger Award! This award has been a part of the community for awhile but, if you don’t know, it was created to boost those in the community who are β€œcreative, positive, and inspiring while spreading sunshine to the blogging community.” I was tagged by the one, the only, Becky @ Becky’s Book Blog and I’m so grateful. You should definitely check out her blog if you’re a fantasy fan or just love good, bookish talk in general. She’s a gem in this community πŸ’–

Alright, now it’s time to get into the post!

The Rules:

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you and link to there post.
  • Answer the 11 questions asked of you.
  • Nominate 11 new bloggers and ask 11 new questions.
  • List the rules and showcase the logo in your post.

Becky’s Questions:

What was your last 5 star read?

My last five star was Our Bloody Pearl by D.N. Bryn and all I can say is what a way to end 2021! This book had everything I could want in a fantasy novel about sirens and more. It even had found family, which is swiftly becoming my favorite trope. Even more so than books about books… and that’s saying a lot! I adored all aspects of this beautiful, intense story and I can’t wait to read whatever this author writes.

What 2022 release are you most looking forward too?

It may have a questionable cover, but hands-down my most anticipated release of 2022 is Fevered Star by Rebecca Roanhorse! I was completely captivated by the first book in this series, Black Sun, so you know I can’t wait to see how it continues! I already waxed poetic about this in my #5OnMyTBR post, so I’m not going to go into it again. But I cannot wait to read this!

What’s your favourite genre, and the one book you would recommend from it?

If you’ve been around the blog for any amount of time, this will be an easy one to guess πŸ˜‚ I’m a fantasy girl and I have been since I was a little kid. And, if I could only recommend one book, it would have to be Raybearer by Jordan Ifueko. One day I’m gonna shut up about this book, but today is not that day. This has everything a good fantasy should have: excellent world-building, an incredible cast of characters, and a journey that captures your imagination. Even better, once you read and fall in love with this one, there’s a whole second book to keep you going!

Do you have any hobbies outside of reading?

Hmm… probably playing video/board games. I’m not as much of a gamer as my husband but, usually, if reading isn’t appealing, you’ll find me on one of our various consoles. I’m not much of a FPS player (I panic so easily…), but I do love a good RPG or a game where I can just chill, like Stardew Valley or Animal Crossing. I’m also a huge fan of dungeon-crawlers like Hades or Diablo. When it comes to board games, if it’s something I can play with my family and won’t have us at each others’ throats, then I’m all in πŸ˜‚ Our recent fave is the re-release of HeroQuest.

What is your favourite fictional pairing? (Romantic or Platonic)

Seriously, though, I adore Dex and Mosscap from A Psalm for the Wild-Built by Becky Chambers. They are so wonderful individually, but as a (platonic) pair? Just… *chef’s kiss*

What’s the last book that made you laugh out loud?

There were definitely a few times I snort-chuckled while reading Little Thieves by Margaret Owen. Mostly because Vanja is a sarcastic little gremlin and the gremlin inside of me could relate! Like, some of the things she would think or say made me laugh and nod along because, yes, Vanja, I know exactly what you’re talking about.

This book also made me ugly cry so, ya know… it’s got ✨range✨

What are you currently reading?

I’m currently reading (and loving!) These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong. I have been wanting to read this since it came out. So much so that I have two copies of the dang book πŸ˜‚ In my defense, one of them came in a book box! Still, I hadn’t picked it up until I was trying to find a read to start off 2022 with a bang. This seemed like the perfect pick.

What hyped book did you end up not loving?

Looooooook. I’m not going to say that I didn’t love Witches Steeped in Gold by Ciannon Smart because I haven’t finished it yet. I will say that I’ve put it to the side, for now, because we are just not vibing. I love the atmosphere and the world seems interesting, but something about this book just isn’t clicking with me. I fully intend to finish this book (and soon) but I certainly haven’t been loving it as much as I thought I would.

What attracts you to a book?

I’m gonna be honest and say that I’m a sucker for a beautiful cover! That’s usually what will first draw me to a book. If it’s pretty enough, I might actually forego learning anything else about the book and just buy it πŸ˜‚ Usually, though, once a cover has pulled me in, I’ll check out the synopsis. If it has some buzzwords that I know are usually My Thing, that will entice me even more. And, every once in awhile, the Hype Train will get me… heh.

What do you enjoy most about blogging?

There are so many things that make blogging fun, but I’d have to say what I enjoy the most is the community. The bookish community, and especially the book blogging community, is filled with some of the most wonderful people I’ve had the pleasure to meet on the internet! The kindness, the support, and the friendship all mean the world to me. And it’s so nice to have a place where I know I can talk about books ad nauseum and people won’t get bored!

Do you have any pets? (if yes then pictures please!)

I do indeed have pets! 4 of them, in fact. I believe I’ve posted pictures before of the cats, but since there is a new(ish) member of the furry family, it’s time for new pictures!

Felicia is our oldest cat and our little void princess. She’s the most skittish of the pets, but she does love a good cuddle. She is also very vocal when she thinks it’s cuddle time.

Marmalade is a smooth-brained little idiot, but we love him so! His favorite thing is the new water fountain we got the cats because the only good water is running water. Apparently. It’s near impossible to get a non-blurry photo of this orange wonder as he is constantly in motion.

Nelson is actually Marmalade’s littermate, but you would never guess looking at them! He’s our biggest cat boi and he thinks that makes him the boss of all the pets. He’s super chill and prefers to spend his time lounging in my daughter’s room or on my computer chair. If he wants some lovin’, though, you will know because he will ram his head into your hand until you pet him. He also has the highest-pitched meow I’ve ever heard, it’s so cute!

Aspen is the newest addition to our furry family and the only dog! The cats are slowly starting to tolerate him, lol. He is the muttiest of mutts, with a mix of Lab, Australian Cattle Dog, Catahoula Leopard Dog, and American English Coonhound… according to a DNA test done by an owner of one his littermates! All I know is that he is a bundle of love that enjoys playing fetch and doesn’t understand why the small, furry creatures don’t want to play πŸ˜…πŸ˜‚

My Questions:

  1. What were your top two reads of 2021?
  2. What is a genre you would like to explore more in 2022?
  3. What is your favorite bookish item besides, of course, books?
  4. Do you have a blogging schedule or do you wing it as you go?
  5. What is one of your favorite posts that you’ve ever written? Share a link!
  6. Choose one: you get to bring one of your favorite characters into the real world OR you get to live in one of your favorite books.
  7. What are two of your favorite tropes?
  8. Do you have any auto-buy authors?
  9. If a fiction story were written about you, what genre would you want it to be and what would be the title?
  10. What are two five star (or new favorite if you don’t do stars) predictions you want to read soon?
  11. What is your favorite non-fiction book?

  1. Loved reading your answers Kerri! Yes to Dex & Mosscap… I adored their relationship and can’t wait for more in book two! Really hope you love These Violent Delights, it’s an all time favourite of mine. I LOVE all the cute pet pics & agree I’m not the biggest fan of the cover of Fevered Star but if it’s anything like book one I’m sure we’ll both love it πŸ˜€
