WWW Wednesday: Jan 18, 2022

It’s time for another WWW Wednesday! This is a bookish meme hosted by Taking on a World of Words where bloggers answer the 3 Ws:

  1. What are you currently reading?
  2. What did you recently finish reading?
  3. What do you think you’ll read next?

If you’d like to learn more about any of these books, click on the cover to be taken to the Goodreads page.

Current Reads

  • False Value by Ben Aaronovitch: I started the eighth book of the Rivers of London series for an informal readalong and, y’all… I think this one might be my favorite in the series so far. I’m in the middle of Part Two, so it may be a little earlier to call it, but I am loving this addition to the world! It’s funny to think how much Peter has grown as a character since the first book. I think this one is showcasing it more than any of the previous installments. I’m eager to keep going!
  • The Thirteenth Hour by Trudie Skies: I started reading this yesterday as The Write Reads blog tour for it is coming up soon. Everyone. Listen. This book has absolutely captured my imagination! It’s a complex world filled with gods and different societies that are equal but not. It started off with a bang and I am hooked! It makes me even more excited to do my tour post 😄

Recently Finished

Rating: 3 out of 5.
  • Nothing But Blackened Teeth by Cassandra Khaw: I spotted this horror novella at the library and, after seeing at all over the bookish community, I decided to give it a go. While it was a fine novella, there were definitely sticking points for me. Mostly the fact that I did not give a @*#! about the characters 😂 If this had been more about the ghost and less about the one-dimensional characters, I probably would have liked this a lot more. The atmosphere was pretty great, though.

What’s Next

  • Witchlings by Claribel A. Ortega: I recently received an ARC for this beautiful middle grade novel and it kind of messed up my TBR, lol. This is one of my most anticipated books of the year, how am I supposed to not read it?! I mean, it’s got a magical school and unlikely friendships and pretty much everything I could want in a middle grade story. I was so excited to receive this proof and I can’t wait to dig into this witchy and whimsical tale!
  • Noor by Nnedi Okorafor: This was another library find that I just had to snag while I was there picking up holds. I loved Okorafor’s novella, Remote Control, and I feel like this will probably be a hit, as well. It’s a story about a woman who has had a rough start in life, leading to her having a multitude of augmentations. It sounds like it’s going to be an intense ride with a lot of commentary about we treat people we view as “other”. I can’t wait to read it!

  1. I too did not care a rats behind about the characters in Blackened Teeth 😂 Great wrap up! A fine tale around the campfire though, especially if I hold it up to read as everybody stares at the blank face😭
