Book Blogger Hop: Mar 11 – 17

The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Crazy-For-Books and is currently being hosted by Coffee Addicted Writer. Every Friday, a new question is posted for book bloggers to answer in the coming week. The purpose of the hop is connection and community. You can discover new blogs to follow, new books to read, and you may end up with some new followers, as well!

This Week’s Question

Do you have a bookish pet peeve? If so, what is it?

Submitted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer.

Ohhh, yes. Most assuredly, yes, haha. One of my pet peeves is dog earring pages in a book. But that’s only if it’s my book that I let you borrow. I had a friend that used to do that… I quickly stopped lending them books. I don’t have a problem with people dog earring their own books, though. It’s their book, they can do what they want with it! Library books are a weird Catch 22 because, like… they aren’t mine, but I hate when I’m reading one and come across a dog earred page! Makes no sense, but that’s just how my brain works.

Another bookish pet peeve I have is when people clearly see me reading, yet try and start up a conversation. Please… don’t. If I’m reading a book, I don’t want to interact with anyone outside the pages of said book until I’m ready to stop reading. That is why I’m reading the freakin’ book! This is more so annoying when I’m out in public reading as opposed to at home. Of course, I love my family a lot more than some rando on the train, so that’s not surprising!

One last pet peeve (well… that I’m mentioning in this post) is when people call a book or a genre a “guilty pleasure”. Well.. I’m less annoyed by people using that term as I am by the fact that someone/society has made them feel like they had to. Read what you like! It isn’t a “guilty” pleasure… it’s just a pleasure! As long as it isn’t actively harmful or problematic, people should be allowed to enjoy what they enjoy without throwing in a caveat so some book snob won’t look down on them. Bah! I could rant about this for significantly longer, but it’s time for dinner 😂 Suffice it to say, you never have to call something you read or a genre you enjoy a guilty pleasure around me because we all have different tastes and that’s more than okay!
