#5OnMyTBR – At Work

#5OnMyTBR is a bookish meme hosted by E. @ Local Bee Hunter’s Nook where you chose five books from your to-be-read pile that fit that week’s theme. If you’d like more info, head over to the announcement post!

Hello, reader!

It’s time for another 5 On My TBR post! This one seems rather appropriate for the beginning of another work week. That’s because this week’s topic is books set at work. I’m taking a bit of liberty with a couple of my choices, but I think I make it *ahem* work 😆

Alright, enough of my bad jokes, time to get to the list!

#1. While Justice Sleeps by Stacey Abrams

This thriller certainly fits the bill since the drama focuses a young law clerk who suddenly finds herself entangled in a political mess. She becomes the power of attorney for her boss when he falls into a coma and discovers he’s been working on something very controversial. It sounds like a thriller I could definitely sink my teeth into. I’ve also been wanting to try a Stacey Abrams book for a minute! This seems like a good jumping off point for me.

#2. The Night Shift by Alex Finlay

Here’s one where I’m kiiind of flexing the definition a bit. I don’t think most of this book takes place at work, but the inciting incidents are two workplace murders, so I think it counts! Besides, I really want to give this one a read and I figure if I just keep talking about it, I’ll finally pick it up. It’s a thriller with multiple POVs, which I usually enjoy, and it promises some early 2000s pop culture. I’m definitely on-board!

#3. The Paradox Hotel by Rob Hart

And we have another thriller! I’m sensing a distinct theme here… Anyways, this follows January, who is head of security at the Paradox Hotel. This a hotel unlike any you’ve ever seen, however, because this hotel offers time travel as one of it’s many perks. January discovers a body that only she seems to be able to see and the action goes from there. This is another book I’m eager to read and just need to keep talking about until I force myself to pick it up, haha. I have a problem, y’all.

#4. Portrait of a Thief by Grace D. Li

Okay, I know this is a heist book. But a heist is a job, right? So this totally fits! Also, this book sounds absolutely incredible. A group of young Chinese American college students are offered a ridiculous sum of money to steal back priceless Chinese artifacts. Does that not sound amazing??? It certainly piqued my interest as soon as I heard about it. I haven’t seen many reviews for it, as of yet, but I’m still eager to give this one a go.

#5. The Maid by Nita Prose

I honestly did not set out to pick all mysteries and thrillers, but here we are! This one focuses around a maid named Molly who finds a dead body whilst cleaning rooms at her job. So definitely on theme! I’ve heard great things about this book and I’m excited to give it a read. It’s even on my “12 friends, 12 recommendations” challenge, so I have to read it. It sounds like a mystery that I’m going to love.

What are some books set at work on your TBR? Have you read any of the books on mine? Let me know in the comments!

And, as always, happy reading!
