The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Crazy-For-Books and is currently being hosted by Coffee Addicted Writer. Every Friday, a new question is posted for book bloggers to answer in the coming week. The purpose of the hop is connection and community. You can discover new blogs to follow, new books to read, and you may end up with some new followers, as well!
This Week’s Question
Do you post negative reviews? Do you promote those reviews if you post?
Submitted by Heather @ MM Romance Reviewed.
I both do and don’t post negative reviews. I don’t tend to post negative reviews on my blog. I like to keep this a space for books that I enjoy, not so much for books I didn’t like. I also don’t really like to rant about books I hated on here because something I didn’t like might just be someone else’s cup of tea. Of course, if I find a book problematic in a serious way, I will break that rule. I have a platform, however small it may be, and I should use it to speak out about things that can be potentially harmful to certain communities. It doesn’t happen often… Twitter usually helps me to avoid problematic books, haha. But, when it does, it’ll find it’s way on to my blog.
That doesn’t mean I don’t post negative reviews at all, though. I always try to post a review for books I’ve read on Goodreads, whether it is positive or negative. I don’t usually cross-share the negative reviews to book buying sites like Amazon or Barnes & Noble, but I make sure I say something about them on Goodreads. I’ll also post negative reviews on Netgalley because that’s kind of the point of the site, right? To review the e-ARCs they send my way, whether I enjoy them or not. Other than that, though, I like to keep the negativity to a minimum on the blog.
