Top 5 Tuesday: Places To Read

Top 5 Tuesday is a fun, weekly meme that asks you to pick 5 books that fit that week’s theme. It was created by Bionic Bookworm and is currently being hosted by Meeghan Reads. You should check out their wonderful blog for more details and the list of prompts!

Hello, reader!

It’s a beautiful, sunny Tuesday here in New England, now that Spring has decided to stick around. This week’s Top 5 Tuesday theme couldn’t be more apropos because it’s all about my favorite places to read. Which has a lot to do with the weather, as you’ll see.

Let’s jump on in to it, shall we?

#1. Outdoors on a warm, sunny day

My absolutely favorite place to read is out on my deck, curled up in my deck chair, while the sun is beaming down on me. I’m a warm weather girl at heart and love feeling the sun on my skin. I also love being outside in general when the sun is out and the temperature is mild to hot. Yes, I’m one of those weirdos that basks in the sun on the hottest days of the year. And I love reading so combining the two is just top tier!

#2. Curled up in bed with various furry companions

You know something else I love besides being outdoors? Sleeping 😂 So my bed is one of my favorite places to hang out after a long day. I usually put some headphones on with lo-fi music, convince one of our various critters to come snuggle, and then lose myself in a fictional world. And then, when I get sleepy, I’m already comfy and cozy in my bed. 10/10, highly recommend.

#3. Near water, but preferably the ocean

I’ve already mentioned that I love being outdoors, weather depending, but one of my favorite places to be when I’m outside (other than my deck) is by the ocean. Really any body of water will do, but the ocean is definitely my preference. There’s something about sitting on a beach, sunglasses on and drink by side, as I read that is just a first rate experience. It also usually only happens when I’m on vacation, so maybe that’s why I love it so much.

#4. At my computer desk

This one may seem a little weird, but hear me out! A lot of my books are in my office and stacked all around (and on) my computer desk. This means that, a lot of the time, I’ll pick up a book and just end up chilling in my office as I read it. I can also play some soft music since my computer is right there and there’s a window right near my desk that I can open to let in a lovely breeze. I also store snacks in my desk so added bonus! It’s just a comfy spot for me, though I could definitely use a more comfortable office chair. Mine current one is fighting for its life, haha.

#5. During my commute/at work

I’ve recently gotten back into audiobooks. I’m not entirely sure why I strayed in the first place, but they can be a literal godsend! So now, instead of the radio, I usually listen to an audiobook as I drive to work. I also am lucky enough to have a job where it’s easy to work and listen at the same time. I’m still trying to find earbuds for my tiny, baby ears that don’t constantly fall out or hurt the entire time they’re in, but I make due with what I have right now. The struggle is real, y’all. Either way, I love winding down on my commute home listening to a book.

What are your top five places to read? Any not-so-common places? Let me know in the comments!

And, as always, happy reading!

  1. I used to have a long commute by train, and I read SO MANY books that year… It was such a great reading year. Unfortunately, my furry companions cannot be trusted with books. One of them always bits the cover / pages, and another one only wants to sit on the book. 😅

    • Lol, yeah, that sounds like a very typical cat thing to do (I’m assuming they are cats?). My cat likes to lay on my arm so I can’t turn the page! I can’t leave books around my pup, though, cause he thinks paper is delicious…

      • Hahaha, yes, I have 3 kitties!! And oh no!! I loaned a book to a friend and her pup ate it, so I understand. (She was very apologetic and bought me a new copy. I just made sure I’ve not loaned her special edition copies since!!)
