Top 5 Tuesday: Reading Accessories

Top 5 Tuesday is a fun, weekly meme that asks you to pick 5 books that fit that week’s theme. It was created by Bionic Bookworm and is currently being hosted by Meeghan Reads. You should check out their wonderful blog for more details and the list of prompts!

Hello, reader!

Happy Top 5 Tuesday! It’s been a lovely day here in New England, which always puts me in a good mood. It definitely puts me into a good reading mood, as well! For this week’s post, I’ll be talking about my favorite reading accessories. I honestly don’t use a lot of reading accessories, but I definitely have five that I enjoy, even if I sometimes forget I have them 😂

That being said, let’s get to the list!

#1. Bookmarks!

Bookmarks are definitely my all time favorite reading accessories! I used to use whatever was handy to mark my reading progress. And then I realized how beautiful bookmarks could be. I swear the bookmark industry upped their in the past decade because now I collect them simply because they are lovely! The last Illumicrate box I received had a set of bookmarks with character art from The Gilded Wolves that were simply stunning and now I want to use them all the time. This is not to say I still won’t use a random receipt now and then, but bookmarks are my go-to.

#2. Book Sleeves

This is a reading accessory I got into more recently and I fully blame book boxes for this new addiction. I’ve received some absolutely gorgeous book sleeves from both OwlCrate and Illumicrate! They’re also wonderful for someone like me who brings a book with me everywhere but is also very clumsy. Now, if I accidentally drop my book while walking, it’s protected. Honestly, they are a lifesaver. And, again, they’re also just pretty. I love pretty things!

#3. Properly-fitting earbuds

Now that I’ve gotten back into audiobooks, I remember why I kind of drifted away from them in the first place. It’s almost impossible to find earbuds that fit in my tiny, baby ears. I swear, my ears did not grow with the rest of my body so, even when I use the smallest earbud size on a normal product, it starts to hurt or continuously pops out. Which is frustrating as hell. I’m still on the hunt for some earbuds that will actually fit, though I’m beginning to think I might have to go with wireless over-the-ear headphones instead. Either way, this accessory (which I suppose is not strictly for reading) is essential for all the audiobooks I’ve been reading lately.

#4. A nice notebook

Again, this isn’t strictly a reading accessory, but is definitely essential for my reading! This is because my memory is not great, but I also want to write reviews for the books I read. It’s hard to do when my brain likes to immediately dump details of what I just read as soon as I’m done reading 😂 This even happens with my five star reads, y’all. So having a nice notebook right near me when I’m reading is great because I can take notes as I go. I’ve not yet gotten to the point where I feel comfortable annotating my books (though some of y’all make it look so aesthetic), so, for now, a notebook is a must.

#5. Sticky tabs

Speaking of annotating, I have been experimenting with using stick tabs to make note of aspects of a book while I read. I don’t have a system, as of yet, but it makes it so much easier to find quotes or sections that really stick out to me. I’m still easing myself into it, at the moment, but I’m really liking it! I need to find a set of tabs that I really like so I can color code my system… but that’s neither here nor there! I can see this becoming a go-to accessory.

What are your top five reading accessories? Do you annotate your books and, if so, how do you do it? Let me know in the comments!

And, as always, happy reading!

  1. I’m the same with sticky tabs! I like the pretty multi coloured ones but there’s no rhyme or reason to what colour I use when. Mainly I put them in to mark quotes I like and underline the quotes in pencil.

  2. Hi Kerri!! I have just found your blog this week — apologies for not linking your posts back sooner, I will fix it this weekend!!
If I could put a vote in for over the ear headphones, I would. I love mine (I have Bose noise cancelling ones) and they are amazing, especially for travel. I don’t even always use them to listen to anything, and just have the noise cancelling on. It’s made my life so much easier and I cannot recommend it enough!!
I also love sticky tabs. I have the best ones that are part sticky tab and part post-it, so I can also write notes when I read. 💕
