Current Reads

• Fevered Star by Rebecca Roanhorse: I’ve finally started my most anticipated read of the year and, so far, I’m loving it! It’s just as gripping as the first installment, though I do find myself rolling my eyes already when I come to certain POVs. I gotta give them a chance! I’m hoping to love this one as much as I loved Black Sun. It seems promising so far!
• The Witch’s Heart by Genevieve Gornichec: I’ve only read the first chapter or so of this fantasy, but I’m already enjoying the Norse vibes. I can’t say much else about this yet as I haven’t gotten a real feel for it. So far, it’s caught my interest and makes me want to read more, so that’s good! Here’s hoping it continues to be as interesting as it is right now.

Recently Finished

• Son of Shadow by John Lenahan: I read this fantasy for a blog tour hosted by The Write Reads. Though I felt a little lost as this is set after the events of a finished trilogy I haven’t read, I still had a good time with this story! I loved the mix of contemporary and Irish folklore. I thought the characters and world were fascinating, as well. You can read my full review here.
• Murder in Mesopotamia by Agatha Christie: I remember mentioning in another WWW Wednesday post that I was iffy about this installment to the Poirot series. It’s set in Iraq and I just knew I was about to get a full cup of racist remarks. And, though it wasn’t as egregious as I thought it would be, there were still quite a few ‘Yikes…’ moments 😅 I understand it’s a product of its time, which is why I gave it three stars. I did enjoy the mystery and I liked that we had a female narrator this go-around. But it’s definitely not at the top of my Agatha Christie list.

What’s Next

• The Dark Matter of Natashaby Matthew R. Davis: I’m on yet another blog tour for this dark sounding novella. It’s listed as a thriller and the synopsis makes it seem like it’s gonna be an utterly bleak read. I’m interested to see how I get on with it.
• Dead Silence by S.A. Barnes: I spotted this book at the library and instantly wanted to check it out. Reading the synopsis, it sounds like the book version of the video game, Dead Space! I can’t play Dead Space because I’m a giant chicken, but I watched my husband play it and I loved the story. I’m eager to give this book a go!
