This Week’s Question
What is your favorite movie adapted from a book?
Submitted by Cheryl @ I Heart Fictional People.
Funnily enough, the family and I just finished a re-watch (first time watch for the kids) of my answer for this question! It is, without a doubt, the Lord of the Rings trilogy direct by Peter Jackson. Has there ever been three movies based on books that were more perfect? The answer is no. Well… my answer is no and I’m sticking by it!
You can tell when someone who truly loves the source material works on a movie/TV adaptation. There is so much heart and attention to details in these movies that make them absolutely incredible. Does everything from the books make it in? No, and I’m okay with that. Looking at you, Tom Bombadil… But you can tell Peter Jackson was trying to be as faithful to Tolkien’s vision as he could be with his chosen format. And the fact that all the movies were incredible has to be some kind of witchcraft! Everything about them, from the actors to the cinematography, was top tier. So much so that they still stand up to the test of time and the first movie came out in… 2001?!
Excuse me… I gotta go cry for a second 😭
Seriously, though, I can’t imagine an adaptation topping the Lord of the Rings trilogy, though I certainly challenge all directors out there to try! Especially with maybe a BIPOC series??? That would be awesome.
I struggled with this question that week!! I would’ve loved to say any of the LOTR movies, but I actually haven’t read the books haha. I’ve only ever finished The Hobbit, twice.

Haha, I actually didn’t read the books until last year, way after the movies came out. The books are good, but this is one time where I actually prefer the movies 😅😂
