It’s time for a new round of Down the TBR Hole! This is where I go through my Goodreads ‘Want to Read’ shelf and do a bit of cleaning up. If you want to see the full description of what this post is all about, check out my first round HERE.
Hello, reader!
After a busy day of pre-best-friend’s-wedding stuff, I figured it was time for some bookish stuff. So now I’m bringing you another round of Down the TBR Hole! I have somehow managed to maintain the amount of books on my ‘Want to Read’ shelf at 690 books since completing the last round. I’m honestly impressed because I’ve been hearing more and more about books coming out in 2023. The urge to add is very high, haha.
For now, let’s see if I can make more room on the TBR!
#1. The Tea Dragon Festival by Kay O’Neill
Yeah, there’s no way this is coming off my TBR 😂 This is the second graphic novel in the Tea Dragon series and I absolutely loved the first one. It was so cute and heartwarming! Not to mention the fact that the art is just gorgeous. I love all the little tea dragons, the story, and the inclusiveness of the story. I’m eager to jump back into this world!
Verdict: Keep
#2. Spellslinger by Sebastian de Castell
So forever ago, I read the first book in the Greatcoats series by this author and loved it! And I haven’t picked up a book of his since 😅 I have no good reasons, no excuses… I just kind of forgot about him a little bit. That being said, I’ve heard some great things about the Spellslinger series, so that’s how it ended up on my TBR. The fact that I know that I enjoy his writing, as well, means that I’m keeping it around for now.
Verdict: Keep
#3. Shadow of the Fox by Julie Kagawa
I vaguely remember when this book (and series) was being talked about all. the. time! That’s probably how it ended up on my TBR. That and the fact that it’s a fantasy with a cool cover. Yes… I am that shallow when it comes to books sometimes 😂 This sounds like it could be a unique and fun time, too, with demons and dragons and Japanese mythology. Now that I’ve re-familiarized myself with the synopsis, I find that I don’t want to let it go. Who knows when I’ll actually get to it, though!
Verdict: Keep
#4. Bellweather Rhapsody by Kate Racculia
Not gonna lie, I only added this book to my TBR because I read Tuesday Mooney Talks to Ghosts by this author and gave it five stars. But, if I’m honest, it was like that book was specially designed to appeal directly to me. It had a scavenger hunt, it had Edgar Allan Poe, it had an eerie atmosphere! Reading the synopsis for this book, it sounds intriguing, but not something that screams ‘Read me now!’ So, for now, I think it has to go.
Verdict: Remove
#5. We Were Eight Years in Power by Ta-Nehisi Coates
If you’ve been around the blog for any amount of time, you know I’m not a big non-fiction reader. That being said, I read another non-fiction by this author and absolutely loved it. It was informative and moving and I loved his writing style. This collection of essays that cover the years Obama was the US president sounds like something I would find fascinating. Who knows when I’ll actually ever pick this up… but this is one I want to keep on the TBR even so.
Verdict: Keep
Starting total: 690
Removed: 1
End total: 689
Until next round, happy reading!
I would’ve made the same keep/remove choices as you! I loved the Tea Dragon Society and I think you’ll really enjoy this sweet graphic novel! 😍 I’ve got Spellslinger and Kagawa’s book on my TBR and I’m looking forward to checking both out.
