This Week’s Question

Do you watch film adaptations of books before reading them?

Submitted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer.

Usually, I like to have read the book before I see the film/TV adaptation. I like to know the source material and I feel like you can experience the screen adaptation more fully if you know all the stuff that, without fail, gets cut. I understand why… we can’t have all of our movies being four to five hours long. But I still like to know all the details, so I like reading the book first. Besides, the book is almost always better than the screen adaptation, haha. I think the one movie I can think of that is unarguably better than the book is The Princess Bride.

Of course, there are a lot of movies or TV shows out there that I didn’t realize were based on books. In that case, I definitely watched the screen adaptation first 😂 I find I enjoy going backwards (aka reading the book after seeing the movie) a little bit less than I do going forwards. Probably because I don’t like having preconceived mental images of the characters/setting when I’m reading a book.

So book first, film second!
