This Week’s Question
What was your favorite genre to read a child? Do you still read that genre, or do you read something else now?

This will probably shock no one, but my favorite genre as a child was definitely fantasy and continues to be fantasy to this day. There’s something about getting lost in a magical world that just works for me, ya know? I love the creativity and the escapism and being able to completely forget about the real world while I’m lost in a fantasy novel.
Now, one genre I read a lot more of as a kid was science fiction. I ate sci-fi up when I was younger but don’t pick it up nearly as much anymore. I’m trying to rectify that this year and consciously pick up my sci-fi because I do enjoy the genre. It just always takes a back seat to my favorite.
Of course, I also read a bigger variety of genres now. Romance, thrillers, horror… I’m open to pretty much anything if it sounds good! I definitely wasn’t like that as a kid. If it wasn’t fantasy, I didn’t want it 😂 I’m glad I learned to branch out as I grew up.
Fantasy was always one of my two favourites as a child but I have always read pretty much anything. When I was young, books were only for birthday or Christmas presents so if I wanted to read, it had to be library books. The library was quite small so I learned to enjoy pretty much anything 😃😃

That makes sense and probably made you more open to different things as you got older!

Fantasy was my favourite as a child as well but I did enjoy a bit of sci-fi too!

I feel like there was less sci-fi for kids when I was younger, but I was probably just too stuck in fantasy to seek it out 😂

There certainly wasn’t a lot around in the sixties and early seventies but I did love Peter Dickerson’s books such as The Weathermonger which probably count as Sci Fi
