This Week’s Question

Do you look at your shelves and stacks and books and wonder how you have ever read so many?

This week’s prompt submitted by Elizabeth @ Silver’s Reviews.

Hahaha, often 😅

Seriously, though, when I was unpacking my books after the move, it kind of boggled my mind that I had read a vast majority of what I had on my shelves. I mean, I suppose it shouldn’t since my favorite past time is reading. There’s something about seeing them all in one space, though, that makes it hit home.

And that’s not even all the books I’ve read! I’ve been a loyal library-goer since I was old enough to have a library card (and even before when I had to use my parent’s card). There are quite a few books that I’ve read that I don’t actually own. What really shocks me is looking at my Goodreads Read shelf. According to that, I’ve read over 550 books in my lifetime!! And it’s probably quite a few more since, as I’ve mentioned, I have a shit memory for books, lol. There could be books I read when I was younger that I just don’t remember.

Honestly, though, that sense of wonder and surprise at seeing all these books that I’ve read is part of the reason that I like to hang on to the books I’ve bought. Even if I know I’m never going to re-read them, I just like having them there to remind me of the stories I’ve loved over the years.

And they look pretty in my living room 💕

Do you hang on to your read books? Do you ever stare at your shelves and wonder how you’ve read so. many. books?! Let me know in the comments!

And, as always, happy reading!

This Week’s Question

This week’s prompt submitted by Elizabeth @ Silver’s Reviews.

I mean, the reasonable answer would be I go through and unhaul the books I no longer want and try and find good homes for them.

But, when it comes to books, I am far from reasonable.

Currently, I just stack them on the available shelf space until the bookshelf looks like it is, itself, made of books 😅 And, once we’ve reached critical mass on the shelf, books start collecting on any flat and infrequently used surface in the house. Bedside table: check! Computer desk: check! Top of actual computer: check!

Now, in defense of my hoarding, I have made a conscious effort to not buy as many books this year and I was doing really, REALLY well… before lockdown happened. My local library closed and, suddenly, my wallet flew open. I did try borrowing books electronically, which is awesome and I completely advocate doing so if you are able, but I’m still one that prefers reading a physical book. That’s just me and I recognize that I’m pretty privileged to be able to indulge that preference.

That being said, the fact that we are in the process of moving (which is why I’ve been so quiet on the blog lately) has shown me that, perhaps, I need to reinforce that book buying ban… 😬

This Week’s Question

Sooooo… I have three bookshelves and a box filled with books that should have gone on my fourth bookshelf. That got broken during our cross-country move and I still haven’t replaced it. I have to get ready for work, so I don’t have time to get a picture of all of the bookshelves, so I had to pick one. Seeming as I’m trying to focus on reading my owned books this year, I decided to go with my TBR shelf.

There it is in all it’s over-burdened glory! I will say that the stack on top to the far right have been read. There just isn’t any room on my other bookshelves to move them, atm 😅 And I’ve read The Merciful Crow, but I wanted to keep that pretty edition in my bedroom so I could just gaze at whenever I felt the urge, lol. Other than that, every book on that shelf is a book I haven’t read.

Yikes.

And let’s not talk about the books I have downloaded to my Kindle app and the audiobooks waiting for me on my Audible account. I’m pretty well-stocked for this whole COVID-19 situation, at least when it comes to books!

How many bookshelves to you have? Have you read all the books on your shelves? Let me know in the comments!

And, as always, happy reading!
