Goodreads Synopsis

The New York Times bestselling Queen of Twists returns…with a family reunion that leads to murder.

After years of avoiding each other, Daisy Darker’s entire family is assembling for Nana’s 80th birthday party in Nana’s crumbling gothic house on a tiny tidal island. Finally back together one last time, when the tide comes in, they will be cut off from the rest of the world for eight hours.

The family arrives, each of them harboring secrets. Then at the stroke of midnight, as a storm rages, Nana is found dead. And an hour later, the next family member follows…

Trapped on an island where someone is killing them one by one, the Darkers must reckon with their present mystery as well as their past secrets, before the tide comes in and all is revealed.

With a wicked wink to Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were NoneDaisy Darker’s unforgettable twists will leave readers reeling.

First Lines Friday #67

First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines?  If you want to make your own post, feel free to use or edit the banner above, and follow the rules below:

  • Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page
  • Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first (I cheat a little bit here *cough*)
  • Finally… reveal the book!

If you’re using Twitter, don’t forget to use #FirstLinesFridays!

Hello, reader!

Can you believe that it’s almost 2023? This year will be over in one more day! Are y’all ready for 2023? I don’t know if I’m ready for the new year but I’m certainly ready for 2022 to be over 😂 All that said, let’s get into my last First Lines Friday of the year! This week, I’m featuring a book that I’m not picking up until January and I’m very much looking forward to it.

Now, let’s see if the first few lines will get me even more excited!

The Line(s):

“I was born with a broken heart. The day I arrived into this lonely little world was also the first time I died.”

The Hints:

This is an adult thriller with a suitably atmospheric cover.

It was a Book of the Month Club pick in August.

The synopsis gives me major And Then There Were None vibes.
