March 2023 Wrap Up

Hello, reader!

Look who is finally wrapping up her March reading! Yes, I know it’s the last day of April and I’ll soon need to be doing that wrap up, but better late than never, right? That’s what I’m telling myself πŸ˜‚ In March, I participated in the Trope-ical Readathon, which usually corresponds with me reading a ton of books! This March, however, I found myself in a weird, kind of reading slump. Like, I was enjoying most of what I was reading, but the urge to read was super low. Still, I managed to get through 8 books and I ended up with two five star reads! I’m gonna count that as a win.

Now, let me wrap up all my reading for last month.

Books Reads

  • Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun by Elle Cosimano: I read this book for the Literally Dead Book Club. It was the February pick and I vastly overestimated how quickly I could read it, haha. That being said, I had a good time with this book but I think I would have benefitted from not binging all the books in a row. This is the third book in a mystery series and, though I loved the concept at first, but this third book it was starting to get a little too absurd, haha. I still love Finlay and Vero, but the things they get themselves into (and out of) are starting to really stretch my suspension of disbelief. I’m not sure if I’ll pick up the next book… perhaps with a little time between reading about these characters will make me like it a lot more. β˜…β˜…β˜…
  • Appointment with Death by Agatha Christie: This was my first Trope-ical Readathon read and I enjoyed it! Hercule Poirot books are just a comfort read, at this point, because they’re so easy to get into and entertaining. I’m always a little put out when it takes forever for the famous detective to make an appearance in the story and that is definitely the case with this book. Still, I liked the mystery, I liked the investigation, and I liked the reveal. This was a solid addition to the series and I ended up having a good time reading it. β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…
  • The Moth Keeper by K. O’Neill: I participated in the TBR & Beyond Tours book tour for this middle grade graphic novel and I absolutely loved it! K. O’Neill’s art is always gorgeous and this graphic novel is no different. This was a beautiful book containing and important story. It’s about a young girl who has been tapped as her community’s new Moth Keeper, a very important job because the people really depend on the moths she’ll be protecting. It talks about loneliness and burnout; topics that I think it dealt with in a wonderful and accessible way. You can read my full review here. β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

March 2022 Wrap Up

Hello, reader!

We made it through another month of 2022! I feel like March went by super fast which was not at all what I wanted, haha. I feel like I got nothing done because the month just slipped through my fingers! At the same time, I’ve been unusually stressed with nothing added to my daily routine that would explain all the stress. It was a weird month, y’all. Here’s hoping April will be a bit more chill.

In the reading department, I read quite a few books but not nearly the amount I was hoping to achieve. I only read a few books from my Magical Readathon and WomenInMyth-Athon TBRs, but I still had a lot of fun participating in both! I suppose I shouldn’t be too hard on myself because I still managed to read nine books. Nine books in one month would have made me from a few years ago die of shock! And the quality of those books what top tier. I had three five star reads last month! I gotta remind myself of these things when I’m being too down on myself for how much I read. After all, it’s quality not quantity that counts.

Anyways, let’s get into all the books I read in the month of March!

Book:Β Anne of West Philly by Ivy Noelle Weir/illustrated by Myisha Haynes

Rating: β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

Thoughts:Β This was such a cute, fun graphic novel! It’s a retelling of Anne of Green Gables, which I haven’t read. Still, I know a bit about the character of Anne and I think this duo captured her spirit to a T! The art is beautiful, the story was touching, and I had a blast reading it. You can read my full review here.

Book:Β The Jasmine Throne by Tasha Suri

Rating: β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

Thoughts:Β Well, this was quite a thrill to read! From the very beginning, I was invested in Priya and Malini’s stories. They are incredibly well-written and compelling characters that made me want to keep reading. Beyond them, the lush world-building and the intriguing politics had me absolutely captivated. I’m excited for the next book in this series!

Book:Β The Cartographers by Peng Shepherd

Rating:Β β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

Thoughts:Β This book took me by surprise! I got it in my Book of the Month box and signed up for a blog tour simply because I liked the cover. Honestly, if it hadn’t been for the tour, it probably would have languished on my shelves for awhile. I’m so glad it didn’t, though, because it absolutely blew me away! March 2021 Wrap Up

Hello, reader!

Now that we’re in the middle of our first week of April, I figured it was time to do my wrap up for March! I’m also trying to be more punctual with my wrap ups than I was in 2020, lol. March was quite the reading month for me, what with buddy reads and participating in the Trope-ical Readathon. I read the most I have all year and I thoroughly enjoyed most of what I read! I also realized that I am super behind on my non-blog tour reviews πŸ˜…

But let’s not focus on that right now! Let’s talk about what I read in the month of March.

Book: Ranger’s Oath by Blake Arthur Peel

Rating: β˜…β˜…β˜…

Thoughts: This was one of my blog tour books for the month of March. I ended up enjoying this one, though it could be a bit info-dumpy. The characters were interesting and the world was easy to get lost in, so it made for a quick read! You can read my full thoughts here!

Book: Mongrels by Stephen Graham Jones

Rating: β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

Thoughts: This book made me realize that I don’t dislike all werewolf stories. This was so good and not at all what I was expecting! For the Trope-ical Readathon, I was on Team Mystery/Horror/Thriller and this was one of the choices for the team book. I’m so glad it was because I probably would never have picked it up otherwise! I’ll definitely be reading more from this author.

Book: The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien

Rating: β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

Thoughts: I’ve finally decided to give the Lord of the Rings trilogy another go with a little prodding from some of the Write Reads gang. I… was not a fan when I first tried these books, to state it mildly. However, I’m going the audiobook route this time and, I have to say, I’m absolutely loving the experience! It helps to have friends to talk to about the story as we go πŸ’•
