Anticipated 2026 Book Releases

Hello, reader!

As we enter the new year, I have, of course, been thinking about what I’m looking forward to in 2026. Being who I am as a person, books were near the top of the list! There are a ton of books releasing this year that I can’t wait to get my grubby little hands on but, today, I want to share my top 15 anticipated releases of 2026.

Going through my list, the big thing that stands out is that there are a lot of sequels or continuations of series that I’m eager to read this year. There’s also a lot more romance I’ll be talking about today than there would have been even a year ago. Dipping my toe into the genre has definitely left a mark! I definitely need to work on focusing on more diverse reads, but I think this list is a decent mix.

But enough talk! Let me share which 15 books I can’t wait to read in 2026.

  1. Agnes Aubert’s Mystical Cat Shelter by Heather Fawcett (pub date: Feb 17th)
    • I still haven’t read the Emily Wilde series, but I constantly hear how whimsical it is. And then I heard about this book and, like… come on! It’s like it was written to appeal to me in particular! Cats and whimsy and coziness? Please give it to me now ๐Ÿฅบ
  2. And Now, Back to You by B.K. Borison (pub date: Feb 24th)
    • I read First Time Caller, which is the first book in this companion romance series, and absolutely loved it! The romance was so well-paced and sweet and I adored the main couple. I also adored Jackson, who was a background character in the first book and is now getting his own! I’m hoping it’s just as heartwarming as the first book.
  3. The Astral Library by Kate Quinn (pub date: Feb 17th)
    • I’m not a huge historical fiction girlie, but historical fantasy has really been pulling me in lately. I actually have a couple of books by this author on my TBR, but this one has immediately knocked them down the priority list, haha. It’s a portal fantasy centered around books that is set where I live… that’s three of my favorite things all in one book!
  4. A Clash of Carnivores by Liselle Sambury (pub date: Aug 4th)
    • This is the sequel to A Mastery of Monsters, which was my favorite read of 2025! You know I’m chomping at the bit to pick this one up. This is a young adult fantasy that is dark and beautiful and thought-provoking in the best way. I cannot wait to see what August, our main character, gets up to after the events of the first book.
  5. The Ending Writes Itself by Evelyn Clarke (pub date: Apr 7th)
    • I was already interested in this mystery novel before I even found out that one of my favorite authors, V.E. Schwab, is the “Evelyn” of Evelyn Clarke! The premise is what hooked me… there’s six authors on a private island tasked to finish the final book of a famous but deceased author and, of course, death ensues. Sign me up!

25 Books In 2025

Hello, reader!

We’re into the second week of 2025 and I haven’t spoken a word about any of my 2025 reading goals. Mostly because I’m trying to go into this year putting as little pressure on my reading life as possible! In that direction, slumps lie, ya know what I mean? Going into the year struggling with a reading slump already feels like not the best time to start making demands of myself when it comes to books.

I do, however, love me a list and, while I was on leave from work for a minor surgery, I decided to make a spreadsheet of all the unread books that I own. I was bored and stuck at home and it seemed like a great idea. That task revealed that I have 375 books that I physically own that I haven’t read! That… feels like a lot ๐Ÿ˜… So I decided that I needed to set at least own reading goal in 2025 and that was to read more of my owned TBR instead of getting distracted by flashy, new things.

In the spirit of this goal (and because it’s one of the challenges in my Little Inklings Design planner), I’ve decided that I’m going to do the 25 Books In 2025 reading challenge! And every book on my list is going to be a book from my owned TBR. All the books on my list were chosen at random by using a number generator and my spreadsheet, so there is no rhyme or reason to this at all, haha. Still, I’m excited for all the picks and happy to bring down the, frankly, ridiculous number of unread books that I own.

That being said, let me share which 25 books I’ll be attempting to read in 2025!

My Top 5 Reads of 2024

Hello, reader!

We have rolled into 2025 and that means it’s time to look back at my reading from 2024. Quite honestly, I found myself hitting another slump in the summer time just like I did in 2023. Here’s hoping this is not a trend because summer used to be one of my favorite seasons for reading! That being said, I didn’t read nearly as much as I was hoping to in 2024. So, as the year was coming to an end, I couldn’t see myself doing a bunch of individual end-of-year posts but I still wanted to talk about my favorite reads from the past year. Thus this post was born!

Here’s a quick overview of how my reading year went in 2024:

That’s quite the drop from 2023, when I read 86 books, but I also spent most of the first few months in a reading slump and then most of the summer in a similar slump ๐Ÿ˜… So over 50 books isn’t half bad! I think I only got that many under my belt because I really started embracing audiobooks in 2024. The fact that I found earbuds that actually fit my tiny, baby ears helped with that, haha. Seriously, though, a good audiobook can elevate a story so much and I’m happy I’ve jumped on this particular train.

The format I’ve kind of stopped loving, though, are e-books. I don’t know what it is, but e-books and I are not grooving these days. I don’t like reading on my phone or my Kindle nearly as much as I used to and I think that it’s because I tend to get a headache even if I’ve only been reading for thirty minutes. My old lady eyes are not loving screens lately so now most of my reads are either physical (still the favorite!) or audiobooks. I don’t know if that will be changing anytime soon, but I’m not ready to give up on e-books all together.

Top 5 Reads of 2024

But enough rambling about my lackluster reading year! Though it was less than I wanted and though it felt very “meh” overall, I had five books that stood out and made me fall in love with reading all over again. All but one are fantasy and the outlier is science fiction. So maybe I should head back to my roots and wallow in my favorite genre for 2025 ๐Ÿ˜‚

(I’m not gonna do that because that’s how you miss great reads!)

These books are the ones that reminded me why I love reading and, for that, they deserve a shout out! Here, in no particular order, are my Top 5 Reads of 2024!

New Bookshelf, Who Dis?

Hello reader!

Recently, I was gifted a new bookshelf for my birthday because my books had long since ceased to fit on the ones I already owned. A tragedy and a good problem to have all at the same time, in my opinion. Well, my birthday was back in September and I finally got around to building that beautiful new bookshelf.

And guess what?

My books still don’t fit ๐Ÿ˜‚ So that got me to thinking about books and organizing and how I can make my limited shelf space work. It also made me immediately assess my bedroom to see if we could find space to fit yet another bookshelf… because I have a problem.

Time to Organize!

One good thing about building that new shelf was I had to go through the various stacks of books I had scattered about my office. It was an illuminating experience, that’s for sure. I found quite a few books where I had two copies (oops!), a few books that I didn’t even remember buying, and lots that reignited my excitement for the book just by pulling them out of the pile. But then I had to consider how I wanted to organize them all!

Currently, all my read books are downstair on two bookshelves, while I had one bookshelf upstairs for my unread books. As the years have gone by, though, I’ve been terrible at transferring my read books downstairs, which leaves no space for all the new books that were coming in. Thus, the random books stacks were born. As I went through my books after building the new shelf, I made sure to separate out all my read books because I want to get back to keeping those in separate spaces. And I got almost all my unread books on the shelf… but there are still a couple (much smaller!) stacks lying about.

This prompted me to think about how to make more space for all my unread books, which led me to ponder a topic I’ve avoided for quite some time…

To Unhaul or Not Unhaul?

I am a reader at heart but you know what else I am? A book hoarder. Once a book has come into my possession, it never leaves. At least… that’s how I’ve lived most of my life. Whether I hate a book or love it, I can’t seem to make myself part with any book I’ve ever either bought or received.

I think, however, it’s time for a change. My space dilemma has made me finally sit down an seriously consider doing a massive unhaul. The book hoarder in me rages against the idea, but the organizer in me thinks this is just what the doctor ordered. I can not only make space for the books I haven’t read yet, but I can cultivate bookshelves that really reflect who I am as a reader. Right now, there are books I gave one or two stars that are prominently displayed on my shelves. We can’t have that, right?

I think my other unhaul roadblock, beyond my dragon-like obsession with not parting with any bit of my hoard, is that I’m unsure how I want to get rid of the unlucky books I decide to let go. We don’t have a used bookstore that’s terribly close to us. My local library does accept donations, but I feel like I’m going to have a least a couple of boxes of books that I unhaul and, for some reason, I feel like I would be such a burden dropping all that off at once, lol. They probably wouldn’t care, but that’s how my weird little mind works. I suppose I could try selling them online, like with Pango Books, but that sounds an awful lot like work and my full time job is quite enough, thank you. So I have the will, but not a plan, and I’m a woman who needs a plan before she does anything.

Perhaps it’s enough that I’ve finally made that leap and made the decision to get rid of some books. Now, I just need to come up with a plan to make it happen. The bookish organization journey continues!

How do you organize your books? How do you get rid of books you no longer want to keep? Let me know in the comments and help me plan!

Back Again…

Hellllllo reader!

I know, it has been a minute since you’ve seen a post from yours truly. What happened? Where did I go? How could I leave y’all with nary a peep?

Short answer? Stress is a bitch.

Long answer? I recently (as in last July) became not only the Microbiology supervisor at my job, but the team lead AND, since the end of December, the Molecular supervisor. My days at work have been long, difficult, and have consumed all the mental energy I have to give and, not gonna lie, that’s not much on a good day. This first affected my posting schedule here and then affected my reading. Before the beginning of the year, I hadn’t picked up and completed a book since September. So not only was I stressed at work, but I was feeling kinda miserable for not reading at all. Like I was failing at my favorite hobby.

Which, I know, is such a silly thing to think, but my brain is not always the kindest.

Since the beginning of the year, I’ve been easing myself back, trying my best to be kind to myself in regards to my reading. I read a whole book in January! And three in February! Baby steps, ya know, but I’m finding the joy in reading again. I’ve also been reading books that I already own and finding I have damn good taste. I haven’t given anything I’ve read this year, so far, less than a four star rating. There’s something to be said for reading books you personally picked out for yourself instead of books you perceive you have to read. I think that was part of my issue; my reading had started to feel like a chore instead of what it really is. Something I love to do, my escape from the world, and part of what makes me… me.

They’ve also FINALLY hired more staff so I’m not doing three jobs at once and I could cry from happiness ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Kerri’s Back…

So what does that mean for the blog?

Well, my husband I are were talking about just yesterday and I said “Maybe I’ll start back with the blog next year.” The more I thought about it, though, the more I realized how much I missed my little bookish corner of the internet. I missed my site, I missed rambling about books, and I missed the community. That’s one thing I never stopped doing, visiting bookish blogs that I enjoy, though I have been terrible about promoting and boosting, I fully acknowledge that. I missed being a part of that and why wait til 2025 to get back into it when I’m finally feeling the fog lift?

That being said, I’m coming back! At the moment, I’m hoping to do at least a couple of posts a week. I’m trying not to push myself too hard as I jump back into blogging. I’m mostly avoiding commitments that have might bring back that feeling of reading as a chore, like blog tours, BBNYA (though I’m hoping to jump back in next year), and any new Netgalley reviews. I have enough of those to catch up with as it is, heh. I’ve signed up for exactly one (1) blog tour so far in 2024 and I think that was my biggest sign that I’m in a good space to come back.

I also gave the blog a little bit of a new look and that’s making me feel better already, haha.

Tell A Friend!

What kind of posts can you expect now that I’m dipping my toes back in? Beyond sporadic?

Welp, I’m going to be focusing on book reviews at the moment. I have a lot of Netgalley e-ARCs that I’ve read and never reviewed. Which is typically not the problem I have when it comes to Netgalley ๐Ÿ˜‚ Those will be the majority of my posts going forward until I’m caught up.

I do love a good #TopTenTueday or #WWWednesday post, though, so those might start sneaking in every now and then. They’re fun and quick and easier to do when my brain feels a little fried!

I’d also like to keep these more chatty posts around, so expect more of these Bookmark Chats!

And, from, there… who knows! All I know is that I’m excited to be back โค๏ธ
