It’s the start of another week, which means it’s time for 5 On My TBR! I love the theme for this week, identity, though I am admittedly not sure if the books I picked truly fit it. Does this mean books that focus on a character’s identity? Where they are hiding their identity for one reason or another? Where a character is figuring out their identity? I’m hoping it means all those scenarios and more because I have quite an eclectic mix selected today, haha.

That being said, let’s jump in!

#1. She Who Became the Sun by Shelley Parker-Chan

Seeming as this book focuses on a woman who assumes her brother’s identity because she refuses to lead the life of mediocrity that has been promised her, I think this totally fits. I’ve been eager to read this epic fantasy centered around ancient China for awhile now. I also have an absolutely stunning Illumicrate edition that makes me want to read it even more! If it’s half as good as what I’ve been hearing, I’m going to love this book.

#2. We Hunt the Flame by Hafsah Faizal

One of our main characters in this book, Zafira, hides her identity in order to provide for her village. Of course, the book is much more than that, which is why I’m eager to read it! We also have a prince who is a deadly assassin and the possibility for ✨romance✨ Sign me up! I’ve had this one my TBR since before it released and I would love to get to it sooner rather than later. It’s one of those situations where I’ve hyped myself up so much that now I’m afraid to actually read it 😅

It’s a bit late in the week for 5 On My TBR, but I really wanted to join in on this week’s theme! Why? Because it’s all about books I already own that are still chilling on my TBR. Which is… a lot. Like, over 300 a lot 😬 I wanted to take this opportunity to not only shame myself into reading more of my own books (#BeatTheBacklog, Kerri!) but to talk about some books I really want to read, but don’t mention nearly enough on the blog.

So, without further ado, let’s get to the post!

#1. Vicious by V.E. Schwab

I’ve been meaning to start this series for what feels like forever now. I genuinely have enjoyed everything I’ve read by V.E. Schwab, so I can’t see why this would be different! Plus, it’s a dark look at superheroes which sounds right up my alley. Should I be starting a new series when I’m in the middle of so many series? Probably not, but when has that ever stopped me before 😂

#2. An Enchantment of Ravens by Margaret Rogerson

After reading Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson, I instantly became interested in reading everything else she’s ever written. Loved that freakin’ book! On that note, I picked up An Enchantment of Ravens off of Book Outlet. And then I shoved it one my bookshelf and promptly forgot about it, haha. Ah well… it’s still something I would love to read and I’m sure I’ll get to it soon.

It’s time for my first 5 On My TBR of 2022. The theme this week is quite appropriate, too. We’re focusing on 2022 releases, which is a topic high on the bookish world’s mind. We’ve entered a new year and there are a lot of new, shiny books that are coming out. Even though I’m trying not to buy as many books this year, there are definitely at least five 2022 releases that I absolutely have to have! In fact, I have quite a few more, but I’m gonna whittle it down to five 😂

Let’s see which new release make the cut!

#1. Babel by R.F. Kuang

The full title of this alone makes me want to read this. I mean… who wouldn’t want to read something titled Babel: or the Necessity of Violence: An Arcane History of the Oxford Translators’ Revolution? It’s so pretentious and I LOVE IIIIIITTTT. Besides, I am beyond hyped to see R.F. Kuang’s fantasy take on dark academia. This sounds incredible and I need it. Not want… need.

#2. The Merciless Ones by Namina Forna

After finally reading The Gilded Ones last year, I knew I was going to want this book as soon as it came out. If it is half as good as the first book, it’s gonna blow my socks off! Namina Forna’s writing is spectacular and I’m ready for her to transport me once again. Besides, I need to know the next step in Deka’s journey! It doesn’t hurt that the cover is just gorgeous 😍
