Hello, reader!
It’s been awhile since I’ve done a 5 On My TBR, so I figured it was about time I brought it back. The topic this week is science and I’m interpreting this one in a couple of ways. I have a mixture of science fiction and and non-fiction centered around science and they’re all books that I can’t wait to read!
Now it’s time to see what’s on my list.
#1. The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin
One day, I am going to finally read the Broken Earth trilogy. One day!
This series, and this book in particular, has been on my TBR for forever. It sounds like a science fiction novel that would be right up my alley. Something that focuses on the characters and their struggles but also has incredible world-building. I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about this book, which is why I’m so excited to pick it up! Now I just gotta squeeze it onto a monthly TBR, lol.
#2. Hidden Figures by Margot Lee Shetterly
I’ve wanted to read this book ever since I heard about the movie. Which is kind of funny because I haven’t seen the movie, either 😅 But a book that tells the true tale of the Black women who helped make NASA what it is? Yes, please! This sounds like one of those non-fiction books that won’t read like a textbook. Those are the ones I can just eat up! I’m looking forward to getting to this one… eventually.
#3. Kindred by Octavia Butler
I’ve been wanting to dip my toe into Octavia Butler’s books for a long time. I figured, why not start with one of her more popular sci-fis?
The subject matter of this story promises to pack quite a punch, so I feel like I need to be in a good mindset for it. But it also sounds likes it’s going to be absolutely amazing. I do love a bit of historical fiction, too, so here’s hoping I love this one, too.
#4. The Radium Girls by Kate Moore
We have another non-fiction! This is another one that has been on my TBR for what feels like ages 😬 It sounds fascinating, though! I can’t imagine what it would have been like to work with something so potentially deadly before they knew how deadly it was. And I’m intrigued to see how deep this book goes into what happened to these women after the harmful effects of radium were discovered. I want to know it all!
#5. Recursion by Blake Crouch
We’re gonna wrap up this list with another science fiction. It was difficult picking between this and Dark Matter, but Recursion won out in the end! I think the premise is so intriguing and I’ve heard great things about it. And there’s something about false memories that just makes me want to read it. Blake Crouch’s books intimidates me, though, which is why they’ve both been on my TBR for so long. I don’t know why… they just do! But I’m hoping to get to this one sooner rather than later.

I’ve read Fifth Season and Kindred. They’re good books. Fifth Season is fun because I think it blends science fiction and fantasy in cool ways. Like it uses laws of physics and geology and astrophysics but also there’s new societies and world orders. I have a lot of science books on my TBR mostly about animals or mushrooms.

Ooo, that makes me even more excited to read The Fifth Season! That sounds right up my alley. Someone I work with was reading a non-fiction about mushrooms but I can’t remember the name at the moment.
