Meet the Book Blogger Tag

Hello, reader!

I’m doing another tag today and one I think is kind of perfect for the beginning of a new year. It’s the Meet the Book Blogger Tag! I was tagged by the wonderful Mani @ Mani’s Book Corner. You all should definitely go check out her blog because it’s fantastic! I’m very grateful for the tag though, once again, I must apologize for taking forever to do it 😅 One day, I’ll be on top of my tag game… one day.

Alright, let’s jump in!

The Rules:

  • Nominated bloggers can nominate ten other bloggers.
  • Use the same questions from the tag.
  • Tag the original creator (Bibliomavens) and the blogger who tagged you

The Questions:

Who is your all-time favourite book character?

Oof, we’re kicking off with a tough one, huh? There are so many characters that I adore from a lot of different books, it’s hard to pick one that is my all-time favorite! It’s like picking a favorite pet! My current favorite would probably be Tarisai from the Raybearer duology by Jordan Ifueko. She’s an incredible main character and it is a pleasure watching her grow throughout the series. And I think it would be fun to hang out with her! I’m a little sad that there won’t be more books in this series (as of right now) because I’d love to see more of Tarisai’s life.

If you were stranded on a desert island, which book would you take with you? (Survival books do not count)

Okay, for once I’m not going to cheat on this question and make up an omnibus for a series I love that doesn’t exist 😂 So I’ll pick a book that has would have high readability for me and is a standalone. I’m going with The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern. I just know that every time I read it, I would find something new to love. Thinking about this now, I kind of want to re-read it!

What’s your most unpopular book opinion?

I honestly don’t think I have any really unpopular book opinions. Maybe it’s the fact that I don’t like DNFing books? I mean, I’m perfectly fine with other people DNFing, I actually champion it! Life is too short and all that. But when it comes to my reading, I feel like I have to finish everything I start, even when I’m not particularly enjoying it. I mean, that’s the only reason I ever finished the dumpster fire that is The Scarlet Letter. Which maybe isn’t such a great thing…

What’s your weirdest bookish habit?

Besides pushing myself to read a book I’m hating? Probably the fact that I can’t do other things that require any kind of thought when I’m listening to an audiobook. Like… any thought. I can’t even play a mindless game on my phone or color! If I do, I invariably stop paying attention and lose track of what’s going on in the story. Which means I have to rewind until I find something that sounds vaguely familiar, lol. The only time it isn’t an issue is when I’m driving, which makes no sense as driving requires all my attention! My brain, she is a complicated beast.

What character would you bring to a family event as your fake partner?

Hmm… it would have to be someone I think would be able to charm my family, stand up to lots of questions, and I wouldn’t mind hanging out with for an extended period of time. I’m gonna go with Jupiter North from the Nevermoor series by Jessica Townsend! He’s charming and would probably be able to breeze through pretending to be my partner, even with the millions of questions my family would probably ask. And he seems like a cool person to hang out with!

What made you decide to start a book blog?

I wanted a place where I could talk about books non-stop and not bore the people I was talking to, heh. It’s not like my friends and family don’t read, but they certainly aren’t as into books and reading as I am. Which is perfectly fine! I just wanted somewhere where I could be loudly nerdy about my love of books, though, and find like-minded people, so I started my little blog. And I’ve been having so much fun!

What about reading and books do you love the most?

Falling into a new world every time I pick up a new book! I love exploring different cultures, different ways of viewing the world, and all the weird, magical things that books can contain. I love reading a passage that makes me stop and say, “Wow…” It’s fascinating being able to explore the world and humanity through so many different points of view, ya know? Reading will never get old for me because of that.

What is your field of study/desired profession/current profession?

I am a Medical Laboratory Scientist currently working specifically in microbiology. I grow bacteria in cultures from different samples we receive and try to figure out what specific bacteria they are to help doctors treat their patients. It’s kind of like being a detective and I love it! I also work in the molecular department, which is where we run PCR testing for Covid-19. So, as you might imagine, we have been busy. I love my job, but I can definitely feel Covid fatigue settling in. Still, there’s not much else I would rather do! Unless someone out there is willing to pay me to read. I’d be down for that 😂

What are some book recommendations that became your favourites/obsessions?

I’m notoriously bad at picking up books people recommend to me (I’m sorry!), but there is one moment from my childhood that always stands out. I was in fourth grade and my teacher could tell how much I loved books. She also recognized that I was reading above the level of books that we had in class. At the time, I was very adament that I wanted to be a veterinarian, so she recommended I read James Herriot’s All Creatures Great & Small series. She even gave me the first book to keep! In the next few months, I read every single book by him I could find and they are still some of my favorite books to this day. Teachers like that are just the best ❤

What is the book you shove down everyone’s throat?

Recently? Definitely Black Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse! It’s just so goooood 😆 I need everyone to give this fantasy a chance because it is lush, dark, and beautifully written. The world that Roanhorse has created is so vivid that it’s easy to get lost in the pages. It has multiple POVs, which I love, and two of the best characters I’ve read in awhile. Xiala, Serapio, looking at y’all. I cannot wait to get back into this story when the sequel comes out this year!
