January 2026 Wrap Up

Hello, reader!

One month of 2026 is done and dusted. That means it’s time to wrap up my reading from January! We’ll start with stats from the ever wonderful Storygraph, then we’ll see how I’m doing with my multiple challenges/projects for 2026. Spoiler alert: January really kicked off my reading year with a bang!

Let’s jump right into it 😁

In January 2026, I ended up reading 9 books (for 2,430 pages) and DNFing one. I’m not mad about that! Last January, I read seven books, so I’m already off to a good start to meet my 2026 Goodreads reading challenge.

My most read genre should come as no surprise: fantasy! It’s my favorite genre, after all, so I’m not surprised to see it up at the top. I think this is the first time the essays genre has appeared on one of my wrap ups, though, haha. I really need to stop being such a hater when it comes to non-fiction.

I’m happy to see the digital format making a comeback on my pie chart! Print will always be number one, I think, but I’ve been avoiding my e-books like the plague and it’s time to rectify that. I mean… it’s why I’m so far behind on my Netgalley reads 😅 Audio is holding strong, as it typically does. I won’t be surprised if that number jumps up more throughout the year.

My average star rating for January was 3.89 stars. I told y’all I had a good reading month! I had two five stars in the month, which hasn’t happened in forever. I did end up DNFing Supermarket by Bobby Hall, so that doesn’t have a rating. If it did, there would probably be a 1.5 star on this chart… 😬It was just not for me and that’s fine! I’m trying to be better about dropping books that just aren’t working for me.

26 Books in 2026 Challenge

Hello, reader!

We’re not gonna talk about how badly I bombed my 25 in 2025 reading challenge🤐 Last year, my reading felt kind of all over the place. I had some great reads, don’t get me wrong, but I definitely wandered far from my goals for the year, haha.

I think part of the issue was I put some rigid rules on which books I put on my 2025 list. I was trying to have a good mix of genres and put a lot of books that have been languishing on my shelves for forever. The problem is, and this is something I’m still coming to terms with, I am very much a mood reader. So putting a book that I wasn’t necessarily excited about but fit my criteria meant I never felt particularly motivated to pick up books from the 25 in 2025 pile.

So for my 26 in 2026 challenge, I decided there were only two rules I would have while making my list:

  • I could only choose books published before 2026.
  • I could only choose books that I own, either physically or electronically.

That way, I could browse my owned books and pick books that, to borrow a phrase, sparked joy😂 The hope is that my interest in these books will make me more eager to pick them up and actually read them throughout the year. Wish me luck, y’all!

2026 Audiobook Challenge

Hello, reader!

Today is one of my first posts talking about the reading challenges I’d like to try in 2026. I’ve been spending much of January trying to decide which of the many reading challenges floating around bookish spaces online. Then I saw Leslie @ Books Are The New Black‘s post about the 2026 Audiobook Challenge and I knew this was going on the list!

Last year, with the power of Libby and a functioning pair of over-the-ear headphones, I really leaned into the world of audiobooks. 49.6% of the books I read in 2025 were audiobooks and I was honestly shocked by that! I listened to more audiobooks than I read physical books and for me, a physical book aficionado, that is quite the shift. So I thought this was the perfect challenge to foster my love for this reading format.

Now, let’s talk about the details!

First things first, credit where credit is due! This challenge is hosted by Caffeinated Reviewer and That’s What I’m Talking About. If you’re sharing your sign up or what you’re reading on social media, make sure to use the hashtag #2026AudiobookChallenge!

  • Runs January 1, 2026–December 31, 2026. You can join at any time.
  • The goal is to find a new love for audios or to outdo yourself by listening to more audios in 2026 than you did in 2025.
  • Books must be in audio format (CD, MP3, etc.)
  • All genres count.
  • Re-reads and crossovers from other reading challenges are allowed.
  • You do not have to be a book blogger to take part; you can track your progress on Goodreads, Facebook, etc. I recommend creating a shelf on Goodreads titled 2026 Audiobook Challenge. You can keep track of and link to the shelf.
  • Grab the button and do a quick post about the challenge to help spread the word. You can post on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, BlueSky, Threads, Mastodon, your blog, etc. about the challenge.
  • Updates plus a giveaway will be posted twice during the year. The first update will be July 4, 2026, and the last update will take place on December 26, 2026. You’ll have one week to link up and share your progress and enter giveaway.
