Hello, reader!
I’ve somehow made it to the third month of 2021 without sharing with you my new five star predictions! I could blame it on my busy schedule and all sorts of things, but I’m gonna be honest… I was waiting for the cover reveal for my most anticipated read of this year. I wanted to be able to share it whilst gushing about how much I think I’m gonna love this book, lol. Now that the gorgeous cover has been revealed, it’s time to throw my list together!
Now, last year I don’t think I had any rhyme or reason to the books I tossed on the list. This ended up in me going back to see if my predictions were accurate and realizing I hadn’t even read half of the books! So we’re trying to be more intentional in 2021. What does that mean? It means I’ve chosen ten books (five backlist and five new or soon-to-be realeased) that are already on my admittedly very loose 2021 TBR. These are books that I have every intention of actually reading this year. We’ll see how well I’ve done with both my predictions and my reading once December rolls around 😅
That being said, let’s get to the list!
New Releases
Redemptor by Jordan Ifueko
We’re going to kick off this list with my most anticipated book of 2021! I read Raybearer, the first book in this duology, around this time last year and was instantly in love. I adored everything about the book and immediately wanted to read the next one! I’ve been not-so patiently waiting for this book and I just know I’m going to end up giving it five stars.
Concrete Rose by Angie Thomas
I love Angie Thomas and I will read absolutely anything she writes. So when I heard that a prequel to The Hate U Give that was focused on Maverick, I knew I was going to pick it up. I’ve also only ever given her books five stars, so this is kind of an easy pick for the list, lol. I can’t wait to read this one!
The Cost of Knowing by Brittney Morris
This is the sophomore novel from the author of SLAY, a book that I adored! I’m excited to see what Brittney Morris with a contemporary story that has a little magic sprinkled in. Why do I think this one will be five stars? Because I’m enraptured by this author’s writing and the story sounds fascinating! Also, just look at that cover 😍
Little Thieves by Margaret Owen
I follow Margaret Owen on Twitter and she’s been teasing this book for awhile. Everything she has teased has made me that much more eager to get my grubby little hands on it! I also know I love Margaret Owen’s writing, so that’s definitely a bonus. The fact that this is a loose retelling of the Goose Girl and it looks like it’s going to be nice and dark cement this books place on this list.
Act Your Age, Eve Brown by Talia Hibbert
I’ve loved the other two books in the Brown Sisters series, so I don’t see why that would end now! Talia Hibbert writes some of my favorite romances and her heroines are so freakin’ relatable. I’m really looking forward to this enemies-to-lovers, sunshine-vs-grumpy story. Those are two of my favorite things, written by one of my favorite romance writers, so it just makes sense this is on my list!
Backlists
The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin
Embarrassingly enough, I have yet to pick up any N.K. Jemisin. I’ve been wanting to give her a try for years, but somehow I never do. I get overwhelmed with new and shiny books, I think, lol. I do have Jemisin’s newer book, The City We Became, but I kind of want to get her most popular series a try first. A lot of people who’s recomendations I tend to love have raved about The Fifth Season, so I think it’s spot on my five star predictions is pretty safe!
Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff
I know. I know! I’ve mentioned this book so many times on my blog and I still haven’t read it! This is a mixed media, sci-fi novel that sounds like it’s a thrill and a half. I love mixed media books and I’ve heard nothing but incredible things about this book and the series as a whole. I think, when I finally pick it up this year, I’m going to adore it.
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
I’ve only read one book by this author (Daisy Jones & the Six) but I had a great time with it! Knowing how much people love this book, I feel like I’ll definitely slap five stars on this one. I also love the concept of this tale: a mysterious actress telling her life story to a young journalist. It kind of makes me think of The Thirteenth Tale and I adore that one. I hope this lives up to the hype.
The Hero of Ages by Brandon Sanderson
I know I’m going to love this book. I just know it because I’ve loved every other book in this series! Sanderson is probably one of my favorite fantasy writers. And yet I still haven’t picked this book up! I think this is a case of me not being ready to let these characters go. I love Vin and Elend so much and I’m not ready for their story to be over! Still, I’m going to read it this year and will more than likely give it five stars.
Where Dreams Descend by Janella Angeles
I’ve had this book for a moment and have been wanting to read it for awhile. It’s been comped to Phantom of the Opera and Moulin Rouge, two of my favorite musicals. How could I not want to read this?? Not only that, it features a competition, which is one of my favorite tropes. I’m all in for this book and I honestly think I’m going to love it! I want to read this soon, too, because the sequel will be out this year.
Now that I finally have this list all written up, let’s hope it helps to keep me accountable! I want to see if I’m good at guessing what books I’m going to love when we get to the end of the year. Besides, all these books sound incredible and I really can’t wait to finally read them!
Have you read any of these books? Are any of these five star predictions for you, as well? Let me know in the comments!
And, as always, happy reading!

The Cost of Knowing is a 5 star prediction for me as well! I can’t wait to get my hands on that book!!

I’m also so excited for Redemptor, I’ve got so used to long waits between books I only recently realized it was coming out this year! I’m kinda torn because I want to get the hardback to match my Raybearer, but I’ve also heard great stuff about the audiobook so might want to try that.
I only read The Fifth Season last year, but it was sooo good I immediately got the next two (but not read them yet)

I feel you on wanting the hardback and the audiobook at the same time, haha. I’ve heard the audiobook is great, as well! Oooo, that’s good to hear. I’m hoping to pick it up soon!

I’m trying not to do 5 star predictions because I think I then put unfair standards on books and set myself up for failure. Fifth Season was fantastic. Heard great things about Raybearer and looking forward to reading this year.

That makes sense! It’s good to hear so many people hyping The Fifth Season. I hope you love Raybearer once you get to it!
